Freedom from Coercion and who voted against it.....TN

Today the Freedom from Coercion Act passed the TN Senate and House. This bill simply states that the facilities that do abortion must post a sign stating .....it is against the law for anyone, regardless of the person's relationship to you to coerce you into having or force you to have an abortion." Over 60 % of women who have had abortions report that they felt coerced into the decision.

I want to point out the elected legislators who did not favor women being advised of their rights  and subsequently voted against it. No surprises here since they are all  favorites of the abortion industry.

In the House....we have Camper, Favors, Sherry Jones, Pruitt, Richardson, Sontany, Stewart, Turner J
Present and not voting in the House is Gilmore and Kernell.

On the Senate side ..... no surprise voting no  is Berke and Marrerro. Present and choosing not to vote was Harper and Kyle.

I want to point out that Roy Herron who is running for Congress on the Democratic ticket to replace retiring John Tanner did not push a button to vote.  He had to think it over and later decided to vote for the bill rather than explain to voters why he was opposed to allowing women to be advised of their rights not to be coerced into an abortion.  Herron wants  to run as a pro life Democrat. It is not so. He will sponsor bills that sound pro life but will have no legal  standing and he knows it is a ruse. When a legitimate pro life bill is introduced he works diligently behind the scenes and with parlimentary trickery to kill it. Herron is well known for telling stories about the birth of his twin sons, he tries to lead you to believe the life of his wife was endangered. It was not. The danger was to his sons. I confronted him about his tale telling once and he just changed the subject.

But good for TN Right to Life and congrats on their win today.

March 31st ....5th anniversary of Terri Schiavo's death...Obama call his support of Terri the biggest mistake he made.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Representatives of three Christian groups plan to take the message of the life and death of Terri Schiavo to the White House. They are hoping their stance at the gates will challenge President Barack Obama, who once said his biggest political "mistake" was voting to help save the disabled woman's life.
The Christian Defense Coalition, Faith and Action and Generation Life will pray and leave a single rose on the public sidewalk in front of the White House tomorrow.
They're doing so because it is the fifth anniversary of the euthanasia death of Terri Schiavo, where her husband won a court order to deprive her of food and water, the taking her life following a painful 13-day starvation and dehydration process.
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition and one of the leaders who worked to save Terri's life in Florida, talked about tomorrow's event.
The participants will hold a news conference to discuss the legacy of Terri's life and death and the impact it has on the current health care debate concerning end of life issues and the controversy over "death panels."
"Terri's life had purpose, meaning and great value. It was tragic that she was brutally starved and dehydrated to death in full view of the America public. We are coming to the White House to honor her life and loudly say never again and pray this Administration embraces compassion for the disabled community," he told LifeNews.com.
"We also want to be a prophetic witness for justice and human rights to President Obama who considered it a 'mistake' to attempt and keep a young woman from being starved to death," Mahoney said.
During a February 2008 debate, Obama said his biggest mistake was voting with a unanimous Senate to help save Terri Schiavo.

bribe.jpgThe 11 House Democrats led by Rep. Bart Stupak who dropped their opposition to health care reform legislation mere hours before the final vote have requested $3.4 billion in earmarks....

... Since the health care reform push hit its final stretch, numerous sweeteners for lawmakers' districts and states have been found inside the package....

The individual earmarks requests from each of those lawmakers range from $20 million to $1.4 billion. Of the 8 lawmakers whose 2010 requests were available for comparison, 5 requested more money than they did a year ago. Stupak requested $579 million.

LTI is not a political organization and does not endorse any candidate. The regular participates of the LTI podcast - namely Rich, Scott, and Jay - wanted to change gears and explicitly discuss politics - specifically the recently enacted health care reform bill and its impact on the pro-life cause. Thus, the link to the podcast below is not LTI material, meaning the views expressed are individual opinions and are not endorsed by Life Training Institute. Furthermore, LTI spent no money or staff resources producing it.

Abortion Sign Ordinance Prompts Archdiocese Lawsuit

Well here is a case of the Church sticking up for the cause of life. Excellent! Good for them. Not only are they supporting a pregnancy resource center...they are standing up for their rights. May their tribe increase! Say what about the politically correct speech in this article. They must be taking cues from NPR. How about pro life not abortion rights opponents. PRO LIFE!

The Archdiocese of Baltimore is suing the city of Baltimore over a new ordinance requiring pregnancy centers that don't provide abortions to post signs saying so, Archbishop Edwin O'Brien announced Monday.
The ordinance "is a clear violation of these centers' constitutional rights to free speech and their free exercise of religion," O'Brien said.

The suit filed Monday in U.S. District Court names the city, mayor, the City Council and the city's health commissioner and health department as defendants. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake introduced the legislation when she was City Council president after meeting with abortion rights advocates, who complained that some clinics were providing inaccurate information, such as claiming that abortions are connected to breast cancer and other problems.

"This bill is not an abortion debate. This bill is about truth in advertising," Rawlings-Blake said at the time. "I think, to an extent, the advocates on both sides have kind of overblown this issue."
Abortion opponents said the bill unfairly targets centers that provide good information and much-needed help for poor women. Violators could face a $150 fine.

Baltimore City Solicitor George Nilson issued a statement Monday saying the city "will defend the ordinance to what we anticipate will be a successful conclusion."
"Our Office approved the constitutionality of the measure when it was pending before the Council," Nilson added.
O'Brien announced the suit at a news conference at St. Brigid's Catholic Church, which hosts one of three centers operated by the Greater Baltimore Center for Pregnancy Concerns.
The archdiocese says the ordinance is a violation of free speech and free exercise of religion.
O'Brien also said in a statement issued by the archdiocese that the requirement only applies to centers that do not provide abortions, which he said is unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination.

Suicide is painless....Grey's Anatomy features assisted suicide and makes it mainstream

Assisted suicide is legal in two states and pending in a third in the U.S. Popular television shows glamorizes it as Grey's Anatomy is set to do.

Set in Washington state a stage four lung cancer patient wants her husband to end her life with barbiturates. They need two docs to sign off. That is one of the sub plots. Popular shows like this always mainstream what used to be unthinkable. I fear this is the case here. They make it seem romantic. Suicide is never romantic. "She dies in her husband's arms under her favorite quilt....."

I once shared a stage at a church event with someone from Hospice. He was saying how they have the ability to keep someone pain free until death comes naturally. So if that is the case, why the suicide? I saw my husband die of a brain tumor. It was quick and sudden. He was in a coma and then he was gone. I pray he was not in pain. I would not want to see someone in pain but I don't think I could stand living with the guilt of assisting in someone's suicide. Since the doctors take an oath to do no harm....they should not be a part of that as well. After all, God is sovereign not us. Eliminate the pain but not the life. We are not meant to know the reason for all the whys in this life.

Someone in my family committed suicide. It was a selfish act that left so many hurt and wounded. We have forgiven him because we loved him but I am being blunt, it was a selfish act.

    Raise your hand!

I had to look twice to get it...

This is from Jill Stanek.com. Pretty powerful and I had to think about it before I got it. But I must admit that the youth today are pro life. I saw this first hand listening to a presentation from Decisions, Choices and Options to a freshman class. I saw their faces. They recognize the evil of abortion. They get it!

She abandoned the sanctity of human life for a souvenir pen .... why is she not excommunicated?

Writing in the Huffington Post, the President of Planned Parenthood lauds the Sr.Keenan, who in a critical time of the debate threw her  support to the Health care bill. She and a few others broke with with the Bishops and contacted members of congress , claiming to represent thousands of sisters and helped  to assuage the consciences of the representatives in order to win their vote. So now abortion is acceptable to the sisters! What a sad day for the Church and I hope you remember this face the next time you get a letter asking for donations for this organization. If they will sell out pre born babies for a pen and a "shout out" from the president of the nation's largest provider of abortions, they do not need our support. Please explain why she is not excommunicated!

    From Catholic Vote Action.org

The last pen he used, reports Daniel Foster, will be given to Sister Carol Keehan, president and CEO of the Catholic Health Association.
Sr. Keehan, as most of you know, was a staunch ally of the Democrat efforts to push through their health care reform. She issued press releases on behalf of her organization asking representatives in Congress to pass the legislation, even without including abortion funding fixes (which they did). She met with Obama personally several days before the final vote in Congress, she contacted individual congressmen and assuaged their conscience that they could vote for the bill as-is, etc.

GA Senate passes abortion bill, would make it a crime to convince woman to abort child

The Atlanta Journal is well known to be a far left paper and very friendly to the abortion industry. Good for Georgia Right to Life for this piece of legislation.

Atlanta Journal 2:06 pm March 26, 2010, by Ernie Suggs

After more than three hours of debate, the Georgia Senate pounded out a grueling abortion bill that would make it a crime to coerce a woman to have an abortion. Under SB 529, the bill’s sponsor, Chip Pearson (R-Dawsonville), said doctors, boyfriends, pimps and even parents can face criminal charges is they encourage a woman to have an abortion. A mother telling a child not to come home with a child, could go to jail based on the bill, that still has to pass the House. Pearson added that the bill also targets doctors and health care providers, who specifically target women of color, or people who abort based on the gender or race of the child.

“If there is one thing that we can do as legislators to protect the next generation it would be to make sure abortions are rare, un-coerced and not done to promote some type of agenda related to gender or race of the child,” Pearson said. While it is clear that black women make up more than a majority of the state’s abortions, Pearson said that in 64 percent of abortions in Georgia, “some form of coercion is present.”

Abortion Changes You....winning the ad wars in the Big Apple

This is one of the excellent ads that are now appearing in subways in New York City....excellent! Go to abortionchangesyou.com. New York Times writes an article panning these because they find it not neutral on the issue. Post abortion healing....doesn't fit their agenda...They then go on to praise a website called prolifeproobama.com that gives all kinds of propaganda about how you can support the most pro abortion president, one who does not mind bringing death to babies who survive a late term abortion and favors partial birth abortion but alas wants to reduce the number of abortions by a plethora of social programs. That's what appeals to them. Let's reduce the need for killing and not condemn the killing. Anyway, back to the wonderful thought provoking ads. Go to abortionchanges.com. Great website.

Don't be fooled by slight of hand....coming sooner than you think to a Healthcare Clinic near you.

    Bart....don't bet on it

We are entering Holy Week.  I just read the column by  Kathleen Parker about Stupak and she nailed it. Stupak was like Peter in the Garden who panicked and abandoned Jesus and denied knowing him after first being willing to fight for Him. Like Peter he was weak at the moment he should have been strong. Will he like Peter  repent and become strong? It sure doesn't look like it. It seems he has decided that his pro life principles are expendable for fleeting power and with two challenges to his seat, one from the left and one from the right,  he may find out what a "has been"  is.         Bart.....don't bet on it.

Read the Kathleen Parker column here. A must read.

"Stupak's clumsy fall from grace is a lesson in human frailty. In a matter of hours, he went from representing the majority of Americans who don't want public money spent on abortion to leading the army on the other side.
Something must have gone bump in the night.
Whatever it was, demonizing Stupak seems excessive and redundant given punishments to come. Already he has lost a speaking invitation to the Illinois Catholic Prayer Breakfast next month. His political future, otherwise, may have been foretold by a late-night anecdote.
After the Sunday vote, a group of Democrats, including Stupak, gathered in a pub to celebrate. In a biblical moment, New York Rep. Anthony Weiner was spotted planting a big kiss on Stupak's cheek.
To a Catholic man well versed in the Gospel, this is not a comforting gesture."

  • Here's to confusion in the camp! ProWomanProLife links to the somewhat amusing back story about the 13 Canadian Liberal party lawmakers who were no-shows on (and 3 who voted against) their own motion to include abortion funding in Canada's G8 Initiative....
  • frmarx.jpg
  • Joe Scheidler of Pro-Life Action League shares a tribute to the late Fr. Paul Marx, pro-life pioneer:
  • After his powerful talk on contraception and abortion, 6 of us stayed after the banquet to learn more about how we could combat the evil of abortion. Looking around we asked why there were only 6 of us left.... And Fr. Marx said, "Because you feel the evil of contraception and abortion and you are probably called by God to dedicate your lives to fighting these evils."
... [H]e told us he had with him 2 babies, born prematurely and asked if we wanted to see them. He went to his room and returned with two bottles, one containing a 12-week fetus and the other an 18-week fetus. We were mesmerized at the beauty of these children. I think it was at that moment that I decided to go full-time into pro-life activism.
  • Christina at RealChoice brings to light the anti-life sentiment toward those with disabilities, especially preborn children:
  • We definitely need more public awareness. Right now, societal fear and loathing of people with Down Syndrome is so severe that the prenatal War on Down Syndrome has at least 13 times the level of "collateral damage" as combat bombing missions.
March 21 was World Down Syndrome Day.

    Parents you must be vigilant......

For the back story on what recently happened in WA with a 15 year old getting an abortion without parental notification during school day read here.
Read the consent form here. Parents we must be more vigilant and learn the code words. Many parents are outraged and suprised by the the story of the WA teen who was put in a cab by her school to go to the local Planned Parenthood clinic to have an abortion without their knowledge. She was returned by the end of the school day to go home like nothing ever happened to her. PP personnel told her that she could have a free abortion if she kept this confidential from her parent. Look at the form and know the code words. The mother never dreamed she was signing away her rights to know if her minor daughter was having a surgical procedure.  And she certainly was unaware that as a taxpayer in the state of WA there was money for confidential abortions of minors! When it says reproductive rights ...this includes abortion....kind of like an oxymooron....reproductive rights can mean the right not to reproduce as in aborting once a pregnancy has occured. Now with the new healthcare bill becoming law...this is more urgent that parents are aware of what is going on with their children. Tax payer funded abortions......children being encouraged not to tell their parents of their pregnancy and subsequent abortion.....giving sexually explicit literature to children as young as 10 and encouraging sexual exploration and experimentation....this is your PLANNED PARENTHOOD.

Planned Parenthood Dedicates Courtyard-TX to late Ann Richard...pro abortion advocate

Here is my memory of the late Ann Richards...she was being interviewed on the Larry King Live Show and she was blasting Catholic priests.....and another thing....she said, is those priests never once changed a dirty diaper and they try to tell girls that it is a sin to have an abortion.....as if the inconvenience of changing a dirty diaper is reason for aborting the life of a child....WOW!! Reflect on that.....

Words Matter....so NPR which is funded with our tax money...will not use pro life....too friendly

Let's not forget NPR is supported with our tax money...

    From LifeNews.com

Words matter. They speak volumes about issues. So when individuals or groups try to change the words associated with a heated political issue, take note and take care.

The folks at National Public Radio understand the power of words. Managing Editor David Sweeney announced yesterday that the station would no longer refer to people in the abortion debate as "pro-choice" and "pro-life." Instead, the station will say "abortion rights advocates" and "abortion rights opponents," according to a memo according to a memo circulated to NPR staff.

In making this change, NPR is shifting the terms of the debate to make it more friendly to the pro-choice position.Being pro-something sounds much nicer than being anti-the other thing. So while the pro-choice and pro-life labels may not be particularly profound -- neither group is anti-choice or anti-life, after all -- they do convey each side's position on a level playing field. One believes women should be able to choose whether to keep a pregnancy, the other believes that even the unborn have an inviolable right to life.

Bogus Lie to Media and they bought it– Claims Prayer Service With Coffin Was a Violent Threat

Politico and other news outlets picked this up and tried to show that the presence of the coffin was a threat...I am sure they have never participated in peaceful prayer vigils but the coffin is symbolic of the  death of pre born babies.

Remember as you read this: There is nothing the democratic-media complex will not do to lie about the tea party patriots or to prop up these horrid leftists who are transforming our country into some kind of quasi-socialist state.
On Sunday night several members of the St. Louis Tea Party Coalition held a prayer vigil at Russ Carnahan’s office for the millions of babies that will be slaughtered under the democrat’s pro-abortion health care bill. We also prayed for the handicapped and the elderly who will be turned away as they face the death panels created by this bill. And, as we stood outside his office in the rain, we prayed for our country and for the democrats in Washington DC who were stealing away our freedom at that very moment.
We brought a coffin with us to represent the millions of Americans who will suffer from inadequate treatment and perish under Obamacare.

Stupak Deal Brokered by Former Planned Parenthood Lobbyist & EMILY's List Counsel

BY John McCormack from the Weekly Standard.com

    March 24, 2010 2:35 PM

When Bart Stupak announced his support for the Senate Health Care Reform Bill, one reporter asked him if the deal between Barack Obama and the pro-life Democrats was made face-to-face with the President himself. Mr. Stupak said that he had made the deal working with White House Counsel Robert Bauer.
Who is this Robert Bauer - the man capable of selling Bart Stupak a bill of goods on the Executive Order?

Prior to his involvement with Mr. Obama, from 2005-2007 Mr. Bauer was a registered lobbyist for America Votes.  In this capacity, he sought to enact laws that would help the fund-raising prospects of left-leaning 527s.  After he finished the campaign of Mr. Obama, he served as the Counsel for the pro-choice election powerhouse EMILY's List.
America Votes (AV) is a coalition of liberal groups that has, according to their website "more than 20,000,000 Americans in every state in the country." AV is controlled by an Executive Board that consists of 9 members: 5 unions (AFL-CIO, AFSCME, NEA, SEIU, and UFCW), 2 global warming advocacy groups (The Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters), 1 general liberal advocacy network (Progressive Future), and, most importantly, the most influential pro-choice lobby - The Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
Of course, this doesn't prove that Stupak's deal is meaningless--we have to rely on logic and the law to prove that. But it is fitting that Stupak sold out for a deal with a lawyer who has worked for the abortion lobby. As Planned Parenthood's president said, the executive order is nothing more than a "symbolic gesture."

Here we go again ....Planned Parenthood clinic does abortion for free if you don't tell your parents.....WA

There are 15 states that do not require parental notification before a minor has an abortion. This 15 year is put in a cab by her school health clinic and taken to PP where they encourage her to have an abortion for free is you don't tell your parents. Do we want any money going to this type of organization....and the school stands by what they did!

Both sides of abortion debate quick to dismiss Executive Order.

WASHINGTON — Both sides in the abortion debate came to a rare agreement on Wednesday: The executive order on abortion signed by President Obama, they said, was basically meaningless.
"A transparent political fig leaf," according to the National Right to Life Committee's Douglas Johnson.
"A symbolic gesture," said Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards.

Right to Life of Michigan PAC rescinds Rep. Stupak's endorsement

Wonder if he cares.....he is the darling of the left now.....

On Wednesday, March 24, the Right to Life of Michigan Political Action Committee notified U.S. Representative Bart Stupak that his endorsement was rescinded. In a letter sent to Rep. Stupak, the RLM-PAC qualified how the endorsement criteria was no longer met. The letter noted the endorsement had been based on Rep. Stupak's voting record, previous interview and completion of a questionnaire in which Rep. Stupak indicated he would oppose any efforts to include federally funded abortion in national health care plans; support efforts to specifically exclude federally funded abortion in national health care plans; and be willing to vote against federal funding of abortion except where necessary to save the life of the mother.

On March 21, Rep. Stupak failed to meet those requirements by voting for President Barack Obama's health care bill, H.R. 3590. In accordance with the Right to Life of Michigan Political Action Committee bylaws and by the March 23 unanimous vote of the RLM-PAC Board, the Right to Life of Michigan Political Action Committee rescinded Rep. Stupak's endorsement, effective immediately.

Another member of the U.S. House from Michigan who calls himself prolife, yet voted in support of H.R. 3590, is Representative Dale Kildee. While Rep. Kildee was endorsed by the Right to Life of Michigan PAC in the past, he did not meet the RLM-PAC criteria in 2008 and was not endorsed by the RLM-PAC in that election. Representative Kildee does not meet RLM-PAC's definition of prolife.

Hughes runs for Rep to replace McCord.... East TN

On March 23 Scott Hughes officially filed a petition to run for the Tennessee State House of Representative seat for District 8. District 8 covers portions of Blount and Sevier County. The areas covered include Alcoa, Townsend, Rockford, Walland, Gatlinburg, and portions of Maryville, Seymour, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville.

Hughes, his wife Raychel and their four children have lived in District 8 for six years. Currently they reside off of Burnett Station Road in Seymour. Three of their four children attend Porter Elementary School. Hughes and his wife are dedicated to District 8 and feel very fortunate to be residing and sending their children to school in the District.

“I would like to thank and commend Representative Joe McCord for his twelve years of service to this District. His leadership in Nashville has proved to be very beneficial for our community. I have thought about running for many years, but did not see a reason to run against a conservative legislator like Representative McCord. I look forward to meeting many residents over the next four months leading up to the primary election. I am a man that has lived his life based on the conservative values of my faith and my family. A man that has devoted my life to many social justice causes, including the defense of the unborn. I believe in Blount and Sevier County and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to serve,” said Hughes

Mother furious after in-school clinic sets up daughter's abortion

This happened in Seattle, WA...this is why it is important to have parental consent laws....imagine that during the school day, they put this teen in a cab and sent to an abortion mill and  told her that if she kept it confidential from her own parents it would be free.....this girl could have gone home and bled to death and her parents would have no idea what happened to her...
    KOMO-TV STAFF
The mother of a Ballard High School student is fuming after the health center on campus helped facilitate her daughter's abortion during school hours.

The mother, whom KOMO News has chosen to identify only as "Jill," says the clinic kept the information "confidential."

When she signed a consent form, Jill figured it meant her 15-year-old could go to the Ballard Teen Health Center located inside the high school for an earache, a sports physical, even birth control, but not for help terminating a pregnancy.
"She took a pregnancy test at school at the teen health center," she said. "Nowhere in this paperwork does it mention abortion or facilitating abortion."
Jill says her daughter, a pro-life advocate, was given a pass, put in a taxi and sent off to have an abortion during school hours, all without her family knowing.

"We had no idea this was being facilitated on campus," said Jill. "They just told her that if she concealed it from her family, that it would be free of charge and no financial responsibility."
The Seattle School District says it doesn't run the health clinics at high schools. Swedish Medical Center runs the clinic at Ballard High and protects the students' privacy.
Ed Boyle, a spokesman for Swedish, had no immediate comment Tuesday night.
T.J. Cosgrove of the King County Health Department, who administers the school-based programs for the health department, says it's always best if parents are involved in their children's health care, but don't always have a say.
"At any age in the state of Washington, an individual can consent to a termination of pregnancy," he said.
But Jill says she not only didn't have a say in her daughter's abortion, but also didn't know about it.
"Makes me feel like my rights were completely stripped away."

Freedom from Coercion bill advances in TN House/Senate

This bill which simply states that facilities that perform abortions will post signage advising what the current law says about anyone being coerced against their will to have an abortion. Should be a bill that flows pretty quickly through the process since  we see signs all over the place advising us of what our rights are under the law. This bill did pass through the House full commitee yesterday and is on the way to the Calendar and Rules committee. In the full committee of the Health and Human Servies , the only vocal opposition came from staunch friend to the abortion industry, Sherry Jones (D) Nashville. She attempted to attach a hostile amendment to the billl that states that the sign should say that no one can coerce you into having or not having an abortion. Rep. Barrett Rich (R) Sommerville made a motion to move that amendment to the table pointing out that this amendment she was advancing was   putting up a sign about a law that currently does not exist. Jones insisted that this amendment would establish the law and therefore the signage. Sponsor Rep. Susan Lynn (R) Mt. Juliet objected stating she was not trying to write new law but to advise women of their rights under existing law. The bill passed with one dissenting vote.
On the Senate side in the Judiciary committee, there was a small objection from Senator Beverly Marrerro (D) Memphis but she did not go on as long as Jones did. She questioned how many TN women reported being coerced when the bill sponsor Senator Jack Johnson gave national statistics of 60% of women report that they felt coerced into abortions. The bill passed out of the committee as well.

Okay one more and then I will quit obsessing about Stupak's betrayal

From Michael Moore .....who is originally from Michigan. He takes credit for Stupak's deathbed conversion in this article...."Stupak stood on the floor of the House last night and, in a surreal moment, spoke against the "Stupak Amendment"! Once he got through his medieval meanderings about where babies come from, he gave one helluva speech."

Pelosi: We are doing this for the American people

This is sick and sad beyond belief...do some people think mocking the disabled and deceased especially on the anniversary of their demise funny?? How low can we sink??

Things that can keep you awake at night...or plots from bad movies

You traded 30 years of pro-life law for a promise from the most pro-abortion president in history.
~IN Congressman Mike Pence to MI Congressman Bart Stupak.

I can't stop thinking about Stupak and how I believed in him and how this all turned out. I am a news junkie. My daughter likes movies. No movie could have a plot like this. The plot of this real life story is just too much! First Stupak is clearly opposed to the Nelson language on abortion in the Senate bill and holds firm against supporting it and then accepts an Executive Order (kind of like I promise you letter) from the most pro abortion president to date (100% rating from NARAL and the former state senator  who stopped the Born Alive Infant Protection Act as in infanticide) and at best all it does is restate (codify) the Nelson language he found objectionable in the first place. Then what I can't get over is that the Stupak language in the House bill named after HIM because he drafted and supported it gets thrown under the bus by him in a motion to recommit, he opposes the very language he supported and fought for. This is like the movie where someone is a double agent and you simply cannot believe your eyes. To make the plot even more unbelievable he gets up and in an emotional moment claims that it is his party of Democrats that are truly pro life!! It is like I went out for popcorn and came back into the wrong movie. What is going on here?? Then someone from the Republican side yells baby killer and he is the bad guy now. Someone please tell me this is a bad dream!
Jill Stanek does a great job of tackling this plot line  in this post. It is worth the ride and seeing the videos because I have to see it to believe it. But then I started  thinking what about his bloc. Were they all in on the conspiracy. What about the Stupak bloc that blindly followed him off the pro life cliff into the land of moral relativism.  It is worth mentioning them...........
Carney (PA), Costello (IL), Dahlkemper (PA), Donnelly (IN), Doyle (PA), Driehaus (OH), Ellsworth (IN), Hill (IN), Kanjorski (PA), Kaptur (OH), Kildee (MI), Langevin (RI), Mollohan (WV), Oberstar (MN), Ortiz (TX), Perriello (VA), Pomeroy (NC), Rahall (WV), Stupak (MI), and Wilson (OH)....
Dahlkemper is the one who made this wonderful speech from the floor on Women's History month just a few days ago explaining her staunch pro life views is equal to be pro woman. She seems to throw that off like last year's winter coat!
Another short post worth the read from Wesley Smith  is posted here. He points out that what is really unforgiveable is that Stupak lead us all on for so long and then left us standing at the altar. Another bad movie line. Maybe there is no such thing as a pro life Democrat. Maybe that is an oxymooron. How can you embrace the party that supports abortion?

We Stood with Stupak: He Didn't Stand for Life.

Opinion: We Stood with Stupak: He Didn't Stand for Life.

Is there anyone who will simply stand for LIFE, no matter the cost, no matter the fallout?

    I'm not
sorry I stood with Stupak. I'm sorry he didn't stand for Life.Executive
Orders cannot trump statutory law. Surely Stupak knows this. Surely
he understands how easily the order can be rescinded and challenged in
court.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Catholic Online) - I have had some time to recover from what occurred on Sunday evening, but I still feel sick to my stomach.  I always knew there was a chance that Bart Stupak would change his vote for some reason other than securing his amendment, but I honestly thought he would hold his ground and not waver in his defense of unborn children.  Senator Nelson's betrayal last year was very upsetting, but this... this is just so painful.

The trouble is, we citizens have no choice but to believe in our politicians.  We must risk trusting them to be true to their word, to their principles, to the promises they've made.  You and I cannot walk down to the front of that Chamber and cast a vote, so we must rally behind our Reps and Senators and ask everyone who shares our values to do the same. "Stand with Stupak!" we cried.  "Let him know we're with him and we appreciate all he's doing!"  He's the only thing left standing between life and federally-funded death right now!  And so, it seemed, he was.

Does this make us fools now?  Well, it sure makes me feel a little foolish, but I realize this morning that I did what I had to do, and what I will do again when there's a candidate who says he will stand up for the unborn.  We have no choice but to take the chance, knowing there's always the possibility that we will be betrayed.  Again, you and I cannot cast a legislative vote.  Our votes come later.

What happened Sunday night sure felt like betrayal.  Not with a kiss, but with a slap across the face and a knife to the heart.  I never expected Stupak to do what he did, especially not at the very.last.minute.  It makes absolutely no sense to me that he would put his faith in an order that almost everyone else agrees isn't worth the paper it's printed on (particularly given the man who signed it.)  Executive Orders cannot trump statutory law.  Surely Stupak knows this.  Surely he understands how easily the order can be rescinded and challenged in court.  He must understand all that because every one of his colleagues does.

So, what gives?  I wondered if it went something like this:  Stupak began to realize that Pelosi would have the votes she needed without him and his group and the bill would pass for sure.  He scrambled to find some way of mitigating the damage, lessening the power of the Senate language, putting up some kind of sandbag against the tide.  An Executive Order requiring Hyde be upheld... it was the last-ditch effort and he went for it.  A somewhat noble scenario, I suppose, but I still would rather have had him just stick to voting NO.

Then I watched as the vote happened, and I saw that the final count was only 219.  Stupak and his group made a difference, alright.  In the wrong direction!  The noble scenario I imagined went right out the window.  The final blow came when I watched him on CSPAN as the Republicans put forth the Motion to Recommit.  Stupak stood up and turned on his pro-life Republican colleagues in a way that left my jaw in my lap.  He called the motion an attempt to politicize unborn life rather than protect it.  He said it was Democrats who have stood up for the protection of unborn children, Democrats who have stood up for the principle of life, and he slammed his friends on the other side for attempting to derail the health care bill yet again.

    Another disinvite for Stupak

First Susan B Anthony who was set to honor him at a banquet this Wednesday and now Catholic Vote.org.  It feels awful to feel betrayed. I really wanted to believe in his principles....so did Susan B. Anthony and the folkds at Catholic Vote.org. I just got this email......

I just got off the phone with the campaign director for Rep. Bart Stupak.
I told her that the members of CatholicVote.org were appalled by his decision to cave and give President Obama control over taxpayer funding for abortion. I also told his staff that we are rescinding our invitation for him to speak at a special CatholicVote.org event scheduled in Chicago for late April.
Rep. Stupak accepted a meaningless promise of an “Executive Order” that does not address the fundamental problems of the bill. In doing so, he not only allowed the pro-abortion bill to pass, his actions gutted any hope for a bipartisan pro-life movement that many argued would have been possible had he stood firm.

After everything we did to support Stupak and his coalition, his actions yesterday were devastating. We were betrayed.

    Reality Check
Confronting a loss of such significance is dispiriting. The emails pouring into CatholicVote range from frustration with politics in general to questions about whether there can truly be a pro-life Democrat.

I share many of these frustrations. Our staff did everything possible to stop this disaster. We worked around the clock last week and all weekend to hold the votes together. We worked with individual bishops and staff to encourage wavering votes to hold firm. We were in regular communication with key representatives and their staffs. We ran radio ads, and launched the Stand With Stupak campaign.

We were confident that we had the votes to stop the legislation, until the end, when Stupak and his key allies folded.
The “Stand With Stupak” campaign was about a principle, not a single man. The principle was simple – no compromise on abortion.
And in the end, even Bart Stupak didn’t stand with Stupak.
    Looking Ahead ......................

We may be a movement that is hope-filled, but we are also a movement of action.
The frustrations and anger you are inevitably feeling now cannot be ignored. Over the next 7 months, we will be preparing for the November elections.
Any politician who supported this bill must pay a price. And that price is ultimately paid at the ballot box.

The backers of this health care bill never gave up. They fought for nearly a year against public opinion, and wore down their opponents until they got what they wanted.

We must resolve to do the same. Remember what happened last night.
Remember how you feel right now.

November will be here before you know it.
    Sincerely,
    Brian Burch

    You are not home yet......

Today it is hard on all who have labored and feel betrayed and beaten.... we must labor on because as in this story we are not home yet.

From a sermon..... Sometimes, when we do something for God, we expect him to return the favor immediately. He doesn't always do that. I am reminded of a story of an old missionary couple who had served Christ for decades on the mission field in Africa. When age and health finally forced them to retire, they boarded a ship to return to America. By coincidence, President Teddy Roosevelt was aboard the same ship, returning from a big-game hunting expedition. When the ship came into the New York harbor, the missionary couple watched the fanfare that attended Roosevelt's return. The mayor and other dignitaries had come to meet the President. A brass band played as Roosevelt walked down the gangplank. A limousine and driver waited to take him in luxury to his hotel. It was a splendid scene. The missionary couple watched until the President and dignitaries had left. Then the husband turned to his wife and said, “It doesn't seem fair. We have served in Africa on the mission field for thirty years, and nobody even met the ship to welcome us home. This man spends a few weeks in Africa on a hunting trip, and is met by the mayor and a brass band. It just isn't fair!” His wife tried to console him, but he remained very upset. She said, “Why don't you pray about it!” The husband finally agreed to do that, and went into their cabin to pray. When he emerged, he no longer had an anguished look on his face. He was completely composed. His wife asked what had happened. He said, “The Lord settled it with me.” He said, “I told him how difficult it was to see Roosevelt receive such a grand homecoming, when no one—no one—had come to welcome us home.” He said, “When I finished, it seemed as if the Lord had put his hand on my shoulder. Then I heard him say, ‘But you're not home yet.’” You're not home yet! The Lord was saying, “Don't worry! I will take care of you. I will reward you. You have seen a Presidential homecoming, but you haven't seen anything yet!

How did TN vote on Healthcare Reform

I was a little surprised at John Tanner who is retiring and I expected to Yes vote. Then I read some analysis and it seemed that if he was not needed he would be allowed a pass. You see Roy Herron (D) is running to replace him and a Yes vote would have hurt Herron as a Dem. So if Tanner was not needed he would be allowed to pass to make it easier on Herron. Herron dropped out of the gubernatorial race to run for Congress after Tanner announced his retirement. Herron will try to position himself as a Blue Dog centrist Dem who is pro life.
He is not pro life despite his folksy stories to the contrary. As a former pastor of a pro choice denomination he is a friend to the abortion industry although they realize he has to posture himself differently. The abortion industry knows he is solidly in their camp.

From Bobbie Patray and TN Eagle Forum:

The U. S. House passed the bill passed on Christmas Eve in the U.S. Senate.  At 10:49 p.m.,HR 3590 passed 219 to 212 (Roll Call 165).
    Tennessee Delegation Vote:
VOTING YES: Democrats Steve Cohen, Jim Cooper and Bart Gordon
VOTING NO: Republicans Marsha Blackburn, John Duncan, Phil Roe and Zach Wamp. Democrats Lincoln Davis and John Tanner.

    At 11:37 p.m.the Reconciliation Act of 2010 act passed 220 to 211 (
    Roll Call 167).
VOTING YES:  Democrats Steve Cohen and Bart Gordon
VOTING NO:  Republicans Marsha Blackburn, John Duncan, Phil Roe and Zach Wamp.  Democrats Jim Cooper, Lincoln Davis and John Tanner.

The  Reconciliation bill will now go to the Senate, where, due to the upper chamber’s procedural rules, it can be voted on through a simple majority and without the threat of filibuster.

Excutive Order is called symbolic by Planned Parenthood: Stupak wanted cover

Planned Parenthood: Healthcare passage will "significantly increase access to reproductive health care"; exec order "a symbolic gesture"

Now it all comes out. It didn't take long for Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards to revel in PP's financial gain from passage of healthcare in a Planned Parenthood statement just released. Note also Richards' dismissal of Obama's executive order....
For more than a year, PP has worked tirelessly for a health care reform bill that would fix our broken health care system, strengthen women's health, and achieve quality, affordable health care for all Americans.
    pp logo, abortion.gif
Today, monumental progress was made toward achieving these goals with the passage of historic health care reform legislation by the U.S. House of Representatives, despite a symbolic gesture, in the form of an Executive Order, to anti-choice Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI), which has diverted attention from the central goal of health care reform - controlling costs and extending coverage.
As a trusted health care provider to millions of women and families across the country, Planned Parenthood applauds the fact that this legislation would extend health care coverage, including family planning, to tens of millions of women and families, guarantee access to affordable life-saving screenings for cervical and breast cancer and other serious health problems, protect women against gender discrimination by private insurers, end the practice of dropping coverage because of pre-existing conditions, and significantly increase access to reproductive health care.
The proposal also includes a commonsense provision to expand family planning under Medicaid, which would significantly increase access to essential preventive health care for millions of women....
Nonetheless, we regret that a pro-choice president of a pro-choice nation was forced to sign an Executive Order that further codifies the proposed anti-choice language in the health care reform bill, originally proposed by Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska.
What the president's executive order did not do is include the complete and total ban on private health insurance coverage for abortion that Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI) had insisted upon. So while we regret that this proposed Executive Order has given the imprimatur of the president to Senator Nelson's language, it is critically important to note that it does not include the Stupak abortion ban.
Thanks, Bart Stupak, you foolish man.
