Pro Life Club ordered to pay college legal fees as charges against them are dropped

Pro Life Club on the campus of Carleton College in Ontario gets the good news that the college dropped trespassing charges against them. Now here is the inexplicable bad news.
"In a subsequent decision regarding costs of the motion to strike, Justice Toscano Roccamo ordered the students to pay Carleton University’s legal costs in the amount of $18,400.87 plus applicable taxes. Carleton University had asked that the students pay $21, 467.68 in legal fees."
So the college sues the students, runs up a legal bill, drops the charges and the judge says the students are responsible for paying the legal fees of the college plus their own. Explain that one!!!
