  • Real Choice highlights the death of a 27-year-old woman who bled to death after a “safe, legal” abortion in 1989. Investigators fought to keep the abortionist from destroying the records, which showed he disallowed paramedics from transporting and treating the woman – who was not even pregnant.
  • At the Pro-Life Action League, Eric Scheidler writes on the latestGuttmacher report showing no decrease in the unintended pregnancy rate in the US:
    Over the period covered in this study, Planned Parenthood’s funding from government grants and contracts increased from $240.9 million to $305.3 million. At the same time, unintended pregnancies rose from 48% to 49% of all pregnancies.
    What’s more, the unintended pregnancy rate went up dramatically among poor women—the very group that PP purports to help the most. Measured in the number of poor women per 1,000 of childbearing age, the rate went up from 120 unintended pregnancies in 2001 to 132 in 2006. That’s right: the more money Planned Parenthood got from the government—supposedly to help poor women—the more poor women got pregnant.
    Of course, I’m not arguing that increasing government funding to PP caused unintended pregnancy to go up among poor women (though I can think of reasons that might be the case). But it’s crystal clear that PP utterly failed to reduce unintended pregnancy in that group, despite their massive taxpayer subsidy.
  • Priests for Life reminds readers that Sept. 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day, and states, “Experts in Finland report that the risk of death from suicide within a year after an abortion is more than 7 times higher than the risk of suicide within a year after childbirth.”
  • ProLifeBlogs highlights Students for Life of America’s latest project, the Pregnant on Campus Initiative, which seeks to provide resources for pregnancy support and parenting among college-aged women.
  • Wesley J. Smith describes the slippery slope toward becoming a “pro-suicide” society, where suicide becomes a “right” of the elderly, teens, and depressed individuals instead of a tragedy we seek to prevent.
  • John Smeaton explains his concerns over the UK’s National Health Service, which currently pays abortion providers for “counseling” prior to an abortion, as well as for the abortion itself as a separate service. Such a conflict of interest is disconcerting, to say the least.
  • ProWomanProLife points to a story about Steve Jobs, founder and former CEO of Apple, who was adopted. Proving once again that every child is wanted by someone. His birth mother made an adoption plan with his best interest in mind. A genius could have been aborted !
