The conspiracy of silence....nurses in training....

Friend and pro life laborer posted something on Facebook that caught my eye....she also had a blog. It was about an experience she had in working a pro life booth at the annual Southern Women's Show.

"Long story short, he is a registered nurse and said that several years ago he was at work when a lady miscarried a baby at about 10-12 weeks.  After it happened, he found several of the nurses together in the utility room intently studying the baby.  He asked them what they were doing and they made comments that they were just looking because they had no idea that a baby that small was so perfectly formed.  He asked how on EARTH they had gotten all the way through nursing school and didn’t know that!
He then went on to tell me that in their classes, when they are studying development of the baby, they show pictures and clear images of the baby, but when they are discussing abortion, they show blurred out photos so it doesn’t look like there are defined parts, but more of a “blob”."
So the conspiracy of silence on the humanity of the pre born reaches into the teaching profession....surprised? Anyone else have a similar experience. Is this the way they deaden your conscience to prepare you for the what is out there?

Thanks for the post...pinkflannelnightgown....thought provoking isn't it?  Is there a conspiracy of silence in the educational arena?

One student takes a stand and Vanderbilt blinks....

For such a time as this.....one young lady aspiring to be a nurse and working hard to get through a competitive and expensive university takes a stand for life realizing she is risking it all. Vanderbilt University in Nashville is well known to be a liberal pro abortion bastion. But this may be changing due to people like Anne Marie Dust. Always pro life,  she was concerned that the nursing classes presumed that everyone was in favor of abortion rights something she felt was in conflict with the ideals of nursing...."to care for people and not kill them."
“In my nursing classes, it was assumed that if you were ‘for’ women’s health you were not also pro-life. In college classes in general, the pro-life point of view was not even given consideration in my classes or campus affairs.”
Anne Marie had worked hard and earned excellent grades but when completing her written  application for nursing school, she saw that she was  required  to certify in writing that she would agree to participate in abortions.  She felt it was time to take a stand.  And take a stand she did and with the help of Alliance Defense Fund caused the university to back down. Being a Nashvillian, I watched as the University denied this only to quietly drop that requirement from their application. Victory for life and the people who choose to enter the profession of healing not killing.
For Anne Marie, taking a stand was not about politics, or religion, but about “addressing what is best for women”.
It was around this time that a group invited me to Vanderbilt to do a training on the art of pro life persuasion. I accepted but wondered about the reception since I was keenly aware of  the nature of this college. I was pleasantly surprised at the response and so happy to see a strong organization of faith on campus. This happened to be a Catholic group that invited me. Once again, my hat is off to the youth.

Tennessean: article dismisses ADF complaint against Vanderbilt....Update Vandy changes policy one day after ADF files complaint

Update: 8:21 PM 1-12-11....great news. Vanderbilt has decided to abandon the policy that they deny having in the first place. Per this story
Vandy has had a change of heart.
ADF said they will be "monitoring the situation to make sure the university continues to comply with the law. It’s ironic that Vanderbilt changed its policy one day after denying that it required the pledge.”

Tennessean has an article responding to the Alliance Defense Fund's complaint.  I posted about it here. The Tennessean never has hidden their support of abortion.  They start off with the facts but then find two lawyers who say that ADF does not have much of a case because....Vandy does have a non discrimination policy.....which by the way is not stated in the acknowledgment but of course students are supposed  to just know that I guess.  The spokesman for Vandy says this is just to inform the applicants that they may be providing care to a woman who has had an abortion or  is seeking one. Here is the wording...what does it say to you? I think ADF is right when they say this is their way of screening out pro life personnel and a violation of their rights. The two lawyers they trot out for their article indicate that the wording in the required acknowledgment may not be the best but if they do not actually force someone  to participate in an abortion against their conscience they do not actually break the law. Pretty lame Vandy. Here is the actual wording...I think it is pretty clear that pro life nurses are not to apply and there is no advising of legal rights of conscience. No dice Vandy
Applicants to the nursing program's women's health track are required to sign an acknowledgment stating, "I am aware that I may be providing nursing care for women who are having" procedures including terminations of pregnancy.
"It is important that you are aware of this aspect of care and give careful consideration to your ability to provide compassionate care to women in these situations," the acknowledgment states. "If you feel you cannot provide care to women during this type of event, we encourage you to apply to a different track of the Nurse Residency Program to explore opportunities that may best fit your skills."

Would having Planned Parenthood in my résumé affect admission to Catholic (Jesuit) affiliated nursing schools?

 She can't be serious......

From Open Question:
Would having Planned Parenthood in my résumé affect admission to Catholic (Jesuit) affiliated nursing schools?
March 5th, 2010 |

As many here know, I'm trying to get into a nursing program this fall, and some of the schools I've looked up and seriously considering applying for are Catholic (Jesuit) affiliated. Of course, this doesn't mean I'm going to be taking classes in Eucharistology instead of clinical rotations, but I was wondering how that affiliation would matter in admissions purposes. For me to get some pre-nursing experience, I only have three routes: Work in a hospital, a nursing home, or Planned Parenthood. I've already applied to some hospital jobs, but I know there's some job openings at the Houston PP. Would that hurt my application if I worked there? Well, I'm not squeamish (if I were, I wouldn't be trying to get a nursing degree!). Also, I'm pretty pro-Choice, so it's no big deal for me either.
