Politico showcases two abortion articles on front page.

It is good to see abortion getting attention that it deserves in the midterm elections and on secular websites such as Politico. Two articles are in their front page today. The first one tells of the pro life Dems formerly supported and in good standing who caved  to the administration on Healthcare and covered themselves with the fig leaf Executive Order.

Health vote haunts anti-abortion Democrats:

Now, SBA List is engaged in a multimillion-dollar attack on its former allies, replete with bus tours and billboards alleging that members “voted for taxpayer-funded abortion.” The group invested $1.5 million in its “Votes Have Consequences” bus tour in August, targeting anti-abortion Democrats who supported health reform. Just last week, SBA List spent $55,000 on 32 billboards dotting the districts of three vulnerable Democrats.

On the other hand, Democrats for Life of America, the group most fiercely devoted to defending anti-abortion Democrats, has been essentially inactive this  election cycle. Its political action committee brought in $2,431 and spent a paltry $308, according to Federal Election Commission filings. DFLA has made no contributions to federal candidates.

Many of the anti-abortion Democrats are campaigning in an uneasy no-man’s land: out of line with the party platform but with little support from the country’s most influential anti-abortion groups.

We’re hoping to hold our members, but I’m afraid we may lose some,” said Kristen Day, executive director of DFLA. “It’s partly the political climate and then the health care bill definitely being used against these members.”

Black Endorsed By Leading Pro-Life Group

Susan B. Anthony List endorses Senator Diane Black in Sixth District

GALLATIN, TN – – Tennessee State Senator Diane Black was honored to received the endorsement today from Susan B. Anthony List, the nation's leading advocacy group for pro-life women in politics. They have endorsed Black in Tennessee's Sixth District Congressional Primary.

"They have worked tirelessly to protect the unborn, and I will continue to be a voice for the unborn as a Congressman from the Sixth District, just as I have been while serving in the Tennessee General Assembly. Black, having served in the Tennessee State Senate since 2004 has worked tirelessly introducing various pro-life bills in the General Assembly. This year, she sponsored a bill in the State Senate that prohibited taxpayer-funded coverage associated with the federal healthcare bill for abortion services in Tennessee. She fought against the Executive Order signed by President Obama as part of an agreement to gain the votes of a key block of anti-abortion Democrats as the price for the massive federal health care law will not stop federal funding of the procedure. Black was opposed to the federal health care law, which allowed for the funding of elective abortions. The bill sponsored by Black prohibited any health care plan established pursuant to federal health care reform legislation enacted by the 111th United States Congress from offering coverage for abortion services.

Currently, the TennCare program in Tennessee reimburses for abortions in cases of rape or incest as required by current federal law. Black was sponsor of a resolution to give Tennesseans the opportunity to determine, by the states, what the law should be regarding common sense protections for abortions. Black also sponsored a new law to defund Planned Parenthood by ensuring that family planning funds go to public women's health service providers first.

The Susan B. Anthony List's stated goals are to increase the percentage of pro-life women in Congress and high public office. They work to increase the representation of pro-life women in national and state politics. They endorse only select pro-life candidates and they must fulfill criteria such as being a pro-life woman running for election to Congress or statewide office and earning the official approval of the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Selection Committee. Other leaders endorsed by the Susan B. Anthony List include Tennessee Congressman Marsha Blackburn, and Representatives Michelle Bachman (MN) and Kevin McCarthy (CA).
