I emailed Mike asking if he had a pix of the van in question. He didn't and noted that although it was a lighthearted story, he "got on" the reporter for wanting to write a story about a small incident when there were important and substantive issues in the legislature this year and "you call me on this?" Bubble gum for the eyes I guess Mike or maybe this says something about the reporters or readers. Anyway, cute story and shows his good character and willingness to show mercy. Most men wouldn't have done that since they are "in love" with their cars.

State Rep. Mike Bell says he
has decided not to press charges against a couple who broke into his nivan and
smoke marijuana on reclined seats in the vehicle.
The Riceville republican told
the Knoxville News Sentinal on Monday that nothing was stolen from the van
parked at his motel in Nashville last week.
Bell described the interior
as “trashed” with bumper stickers for his state Senate campaign scattered
around and ashes left in a box of TN Blue Books.
Security footage identified
the intruders as a couple who were also staying at the motel. When confronted
by a manager, the couple apologized profusely and wrote to Bell that they were
“sorry for smoking pot in your van.”
Bell said the 2002 minivan
has 170,000 miles on it and is probably worth less than $1,000.
