It now or never

Planned Parenthood Defunding BillsPass Key Committees; Full Floor Votes Likely on Tuesday or Wednesday, June 16-17
As the state Legislature rushes toward adjournment, the pro-life bills to defund Planned Parenthood were passed through three separate committees on Monday and appear headed to full votes in the state House and state Senate as early as Tuesday or Wednesday, June 16-17.
Pro-life Tennesseans have one last opportunity to voice strong support for SB 470 and HB 1756 which remove preferential treatment for Planned Parenthood in state law. At the same time, the bill gives first priority to local health departments rather than private non-profit organizations such as Planned Parenthood for the distribution of Title X (Title Ten) 'family planning' tax dollars.

In the state Senate, SB 470 sponsored by pro-life Senator Jack Johnson (R-College Grove) is likely to be brought to the Senate floor for debate and vote as early as Tuesday, June 16. Please thank Senator Jack Johnson and pro-life Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey for their focused leadership and support in making this pro-life bill a legislative priority.

This protective legislation is strongly supported by Tennessee Right to Life and is urgently needed following the recent release of undercover videotape showing a Planned Parenthood abortion counselor in Memphis directing a "14 year old" to lie to a judge regarding the age of her "31 year old" boyfriend. The shocking scandal highlights Planned Parenthood's aggressive marketing of abortion and their willingness to violate laws requiring the immediate reporting of suspected sexual abuse of children to public officials.
