VERNAL, Utah (AP) — Prosecutors say a 17-year-old girl allegedly paid a man to beat her up so she would have a miscarriage.
The fetus survived the alleged beating, and the girl and the alleged attacker face criminal charges.
The girl, who was seven months pregnant, is charged in juvenile court with criminal solicitation to commit murder. She appeared in court Wednesday, and was ordered to remain in a juvenile detention center.
Prosecutors say the girl paid 21-year-old Arron Harrison, of Naples, $150 to beat her up after her boyfriend threatened a break up if she didn't get rid of the fetus.
Court documents say Harrison allegedly brought the girl to his home on May 20, where he is accused of striking her and biting her, leaving bruises on her stomach and a bite mark on her neck.
Court papers say her fetus survived.
Harrison is charged with attempted murder.
John Beaslin, Harrison's court-appointed attorney, told The Associated Press Thursday that he had no comment.
