Amber Brewington, 23, of Duck River, Tenn., will spend five to 15 years in a mental facility. She stated she was trying to speed up the death of her ill child. Now the child is is partially blind and suffers from mild cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, has water on the brain and has suffered stroke. This is reported to be a result of the poisoning.
"Brewington’s son was originally taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., for treatment of salmonella but came to develop other symptoms which authorities now believe were the result of sodium poisoning induced by his mother. He was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh where doctors diagnosed the poisoning."
"A psychiatrist testified then that Brewington suffered from Munchausen by proxy syndrome, in which a caregiver tries to cause illness or injury to generate sympathy. Brewington also had borderline personality disorder and suicidal thoughts, the psychiatrist said."A TN couple is seeking to adopt the child.
