"I'm a truck-driving, shotgun-totin', church-going, crime-fighting country boy from Dresden, Tennessee,'' he says. It's a line he hopes will penetrate the wall that so often separates people on one single issue.I am glad he does not insert pro life as he has in the past. But he throws in the church goin..which I don't dispute as he is an ordained minister in a congregation that has in the past belonged and given the church people's tithe money to pro abortion organizations like Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. Frustrated pro life Methodists have pressured them to withdraw from that controversial organization but they still embrace abortion as an option in an unplanned pregnancy as their website states. They take the stance that abortion is unfortunate and should not be used as a method of birth control (why???...if it is just removing products of conception???....no.... they know that it is taking of an innocent human life....but okay to make that decision as long as you feel really bad about it while you are doing it,huh??) That pretty much sums up the feelings of Herron. I have heard his stories of young girls pregnant (the age each time he tells the story gets younger and younger)as they seek his advice as a pastor and he always feels bad as he decides against the baby.
This stance by this denomination has caused pro life people to leave (including yours truly) because why would I want my offerings to support the pro abortion viewpoint.
But back to Herron.....I am glad he is leaving out the pro life in his self description. Probably because he knows the votes and alliances he has established during his tenure in Nashville will be thrown in his face and then he can add the word... hypocrite to his litany of titles....
