"Be Not Confused. Be Not Misled."
This senator is NOT PRO LIFE. I am so sick of his story telling. Instead of being a stand up person who admits they are pro choice he pretends to be pro life and only interested in changing the language of SJR 127 .It has taken 11 years to get this far so his his amendment to change the language would make this amendment have to start all over again. That is his real agenda. As a lawyer, he knows that his language would not pass legal scrutiny unless the constiution is changed.
He always tells the story of his wife's pregnancy with twins. He has been forced to change it since he started inferring that his wife's life was in danger when she was carrying the twins. He admitted to me when I confronted him on the issue that she was not in danger but the twins lives that was in danger. Tonight he said that the doctor twice advised abortion because the twins might not make it. Wow! You think your twins might die so you decide to kill them first!!
Senator Herron, the storyteller, goes off on tangents talking about high risk pregnancies and girls being raped and he knows full well that this has nothing to do with SJR 127 but that is the way he operates....telling stories until you forget what the question is in the first place.
Senator Roy Herron, be not confused, be not misled. This is a pro abortion senator from Dresden.

Politico: Herron claims Dems pulled funds from him when he said he would not vote for Pelosi...
May we never get a chance to find out if he means it.....He says he is pro life but the abortion industry knows they can count on his support.
from Politico.com
A Democratic House candidate from Tennessee is suggesting that the national party pulled funds from his race because he said he wouldn't vote for Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House.
Roy Herron, who’s running to replace the retiring Rep. John Tanner (D), said Monday that he wouldn’t vote for the Pelosi or House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) for speaker. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee later in the day said they would stop funneling money into the race.

Herron is one of several Democrats who have said they wouldn't back Pelosi. Rep. Bobby Bright (Ala.) has campaigned on the idea that he would not vote for Pelosi for speaker again, and Peter DeFazio (Ore.) suggested there may be a Democratic leadership shakeup if there's an electoral wipeout.
Herron may not even get a chance to vote against Pelosi for speaker, as he is facing an uphill battle against Stephen Fincher for the northwest Tennessee seat. On Tuesday, Herron said Fincher would be a “rubber stamp for his Washington bosses” and would eschew bipartisanship. The Democrat said “we need new leadership in Washington – not Nancy Pelosi or the Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio either.”
“Because both have let these deficits soar and have let our people down,” he said.

"This morning, The Jackson Sun [a local paper] reported for the first
time what I’ve repeatedly told citizens: I will not vote for Nancy
Pelosi for House speaker," Herron said in a statement Tuesday. "If the
DCCC pulling ads is the price of independence and following my
conscience, so be it. That’s the kind of congressman I’ll be.”
The DCCC did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Herron is one of several Democrats who have said they wouldn't back Pelosi. Rep. Herron: Self avowed "country boy" leaves out pro life in his "aw shucks" description....
Article in the left leaning Commercial Appeal is pretty straightforward and contains this interesting quote from slick country boy Herron who turns on and off the accent at will....
This stance by this denomination has caused pro life people to leave (including yours truly) because why would I want my offerings to support the pro abortion viewpoint.
But back to Herron.....I am glad he is leaving out the pro life in his self description. Probably because he knows the votes and alliances he has established during his tenure in Nashville will be thrown in his face and then he can add the word... hypocrite to his litany of titles....
"I'm a truck-driving, shotgun-totin', church-going, crime-fighting country boy from Dresden, Tennessee,'' he says. It's a line he hopes will penetrate the wall that so often separates people on one single issue.I am glad he does not insert pro life as he has in the past. But he throws in the church goin..which I don't dispute as he is an ordained minister in a congregation that has in the past belonged and given the church people's tithe money to pro abortion organizations like Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. Frustrated pro life Methodists have pressured them to withdraw from that controversial organization but they still embrace abortion as an option in an unplanned pregnancy as their website states. They take the stance that abortion is unfortunate and should not be used as a method of birth control (why???...if it is just removing products of conception???....no.... they know that it is taking of an innocent human life....but okay to make that decision as long as you feel really bad about it while you are doing it,huh??) That pretty much sums up the feelings of Herron. I have heard his stories of young girls pregnant (the age each time he tells the story gets younger and younger)as they seek his advice as a pastor and he always feels bad as he decides against the baby.

Townhall: TN 8th district may lean R this year and that's no story......
Townhall has a good piece about the 8th District in TN that traditionally leans Democrat but this year may have a different slant. This pits Herron(D) and Fincher (R). They sure have Herron's number.
"Herron embodies why most people are sick of politicians. Tennesseans won’t like Herron’s history of raising taxes on the middle class while voting himself multiple pay raises; or his support for taxpayer-funded abortion; or his support for the job-killing legislation known as “card check.”
My personal beef with Herron is that he tries to pass himself off as pro life (former pastor don't you know....but know that his denomination is not opposed to abortion) but for all his storytelling about his wife's pregnancy issues....he comes down as a sure vote for the abortion industry. Then to deflect attention away from his true stance, he sponsors a meaningless bill that masquerades as "pro life lite" that he knows will go no where and do nothing...but give him political cover. Be not fooled....he is not pro life, you will not see PP come out against him. They care not about his tall tales but his final vote.

TN Congressional Race: See Roy Run, From his Pro-Obamacare Stance...
This is the portion of a blog about the West TN race to replace John Tanner....current state senator Roy Herron (D)..."Mr. Aw Shucks,".....is running for the TN 8th district. I am going to post the portion dealing with the life issue. I think the reason the good senator grates on my nerves is that he is an abortion ally who tries to pretend that he is pro life even to the extent that he introduces phony pro life bills to give himself cover. I have much more respect for those who are open about their advocacy of abortion. Make no mistake about it West TN, the senator is a abortion on demand supporter despite his storytelling capabilities.
from the blog.....
…Or the door it leaves open to abortion funding…
“…he's also voted against bills that sought to halt the state's funding of abortions.” (Jackson Sun, 10/28/04)
“…an earlier amendment by Sen. Roy Herron, D-Dresden…would have enshrined in the constitution the right to abortion in the three cases.” (Memphis Commercial Appeal, 3/9/04)
“…pro-choice Sen. Roy Herron…” (Knoxville News-Sentinel, 2/29/04)
“…[Herron] voted against the constitutional amendment on abortion backed by Tennessee Right to Life.” (The Tennessee Journal, 12/4/09)

TN Senate Idol Show: Hedy Weinberg More Popular Than Michael Jackson!
Interesting write up on the State senate voting to honor Hedy Weinberg, ACLU Director.....it is being considered today on the House floor.....what I think it interesting is the way Senator Haynes had to change it to get votes and the way this vote may be used against candidates running for office...
TNSenate Idol Show: Hedy Weinberg More Popular Than Michael Jackson!
TNSenate Idol Show: Hedy Weinberg More Popular Than Michael Jackson!
A resolution honoring Hedy Weinberg for serving 25 years as executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Tennessee has passed the state Senate after revisions intended to reduce controversy.
But the revised resolution, approved 26-0 in the Senate with four Republican senators abstaining and three members absent, has nonetheless drawn criticism. It is scheduled for a House floor vote Monday evening.
Sen. Joe Haynes, D-Nashville, sponsored the resolution with nine co-sponsors, all Democrats. He withdrew the original version (SJR708) after a Republican objected to it being included on a list of non-controversial items slated for passage with unanimous approval and replaced it with a second, revised version (SJR782).
"That's the only way I could get it passed," Haynes said of the watered-down version in an interview. "I think everybody over there (on the Republican side) was concerned about kickback from some of their people."
The revisions included deletion of references to the ACLU having "gay and straight" members - retained is a reference to having supporters who are "Democrats,
Republicans and Libertarians and religious and non-religious" - and a declaration of the ACLU's readiness to defend "the outcasts of society."
Also stripped from the original version was a paragraph hailing Weinberg's "brilliant direction" of the ACLU in opposing racial profiling and legislation to mandate that driver's license exam be conducted in English only while supporting efforts "to get Tennessee schools to end censorship of gay educational sites."
Traditionally, almost any congratulatory resolution has been approved automatically as a courtesy to the sponsoring legislator. A change in that attitude was reflected earlier with the Senate's rejection of a House-passed resolution honoring the late entertainer Michael Jackson.
(The historic roll call vote on the Michael Jackson resolution -- seven yes, seven no and everyone else dodging the issue as best they could -- is HERE.)
"Welcome to the Republican (controlled) General Assembly. That's the difference, in my opinion," said Haynes.
On the Senate floor, the revised resolution was approved without debate but apparently with considerable consternation on how to vote. Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey held the voting machine open for several moments, during which some members shifted their votes.
When the final vote was taken, there were zero no votes. The four abstaining, and thus declining to take a position, were Republican Sens. Mae Beavers of Mount Juliet, Diane Black of Gallatin, Jim Tracy of Shelbyville and Steve Southerland of Morristown. Black and Tracy are among six candidates seeking the GOP nomination for the 6th District Congressional seat.
Ramsey, who is running for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, voted for the resolution along with Senate Republican Leader Mark Norris of Collierville.
When the resolution came to the House, Rep. Glen Casada of College Grove, who is House Republican Caucus chairman, "bumped" it from the list of measures slated for unanimous approval and thus set up the Monday House floor vote.
Meanwhile, Senate approval of the resolution had attracted critical commentary. The blog "Pro-Life In Tennessee," for example, focused on Weinberg's support for a lawsuit that led to a Tennessee Supreme Court ruling widely criticized by anti-abortion activists.
Andy Sere, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, meanwhile, used the situation to attack Democratic Sen. Roy Herron of Dresden, who is running for the 8th District Congressional nomination and who voted yes on honoring the ACLU leader."Weinberg and her organization support removing God from the public square; banning the death penalty; restricting the 2nd Amendment right of Tennesseans to keep and bear arms; and allowing abortion-on-demand & gay marriage," said Sere in an emailed news release to reporters. "But Roy Herron voted to 'honor and commend' that agenda."
Haynes said he sponsored the resolution as a simple matter of taking note of an fellow Nashvillian's involvement in the public arena; not as a political statement. Typically, such resolutions with their flowery language are designed to be framed and hung in a place where family and friends can admire.
"I haven't always agreed with Hedy... like when she was for the Ku Klux Klan marching (at an event in Pulaski years ago)," Haynes said when asked why he pushed a resolution praising Weinberg. "But I respect her. But she believes in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and has worked hard for 25 years for those principles."
