McWherter says he is personally pro life but supports "choice" but not with tax $$

A post online today outlining a speech given by gubernatorial candidate for TN, Mike McWherter in Nashville hosted by Jewish groups at the Akiva School.

"McWherter fielded several questions from the audience, and one was about abortion. He took a pro-choice stand but opposed public funding of abortions.
"That is one of the most difficult choices any woman faces in her lifetime, and when she is facing that choice I think we should give them all the support we possibly can," he said.
"I am personally against abortion. My faith leads me that way. I am never going to commit state tax dollars to support abortions. But I believe in the end that has to be the choice of the woman, and her doctor, and her family and, very hopefully, her clergy."
When the questioner asked if that meant someone who is poor could not receive government assistance, McWherter replied, "I will never support using tax dollars to fund abortion."
