National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy releases the latest Guttmacher Institute report on unintended pregnancies . Long report but some interesting things jump out at me.
The part that interested me is the unintended pregnancies ending in abortion. Of course these are reports for 2006 and analyzes the time between 2001 and 2006. Some interesting points...
- The highest age of pregnancies ending in abortions is 35-39
- Most reported had some college followed by college graduate.
- Black, non Hispanic has 52 % of abortions and the second place is at 39% for Caucasian
- Relationship status were single women not cohabiting.
- Most said they had no religious affiliation
So what does this tell us? They surely know about birth control, can be expected to have access to birth control procedures. They are obviously engaging in casual sex and have no inhibition to using abortion as a method of birth control. This goes along with reports that most presenting with an unintended pregnancy state they did not consistently use birth control.
So abortion as a means of birth control? Sure looks that way. That is why abortion is a lucrative industry.
