Decisions, Choices and Options....facts about teen pregnancy talks $$ to teens

Amy Lafayette brings it home to teens in Sumner County TN in this pilot program as she discusses  the cost of raising a child in the first year of life. Sponsored by Decisions, Choices and Options ,this program uses the Personal Finance class, a required class,  for all  students in Tennessee.

Lafayette, discusses her impressions  of the program after two years in the schools. Listen here.

Cost of teen pregnancy...pilot program in Sumner County TN is a success

Juniors and Seniors in Personal Finance Class at White House High School listen intently in this  Personal Finance class.  It is a requirement to graduate and  full of practical advice.

At the request of educators, Decisions, Choices and Options, was invited to  bring their teen pregnancy prevention advice to the students in  a class designed to work with  finances.  Amy Lafayette, an experienced educator, and  Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace facilitator was the perfect person for this pilot program.

The feedback from teachers and students showcase the success.  The teens are fully engaged in interactive assignments as they calculate the cost of pregnancy, delivery and caring for an infant in the first year of life.

Most of these students  already have part time jobs and  meet some of their personal expenses such as cell phones, car insurance, clothing and gas. They understand paychecks and taxes.  The assignments  in class help them see the direct consequences of  other life  choices.

The  hour and a half class was fast moving and never boring.  It was very compelling  in the middle of the lesson to hear one young man say...."is it worth it to have a baby at this age?"  This statement prompted Mrs. Lafayette to ask what is the only 100% method of preventing pregnancy.
To which the class answered in unison...abstinence!  Give teens facts and they will draw the correct conclusion.

Now for some interactive group work. Notice how the class is mainly boys but they are into it.

The shameless selling of abortion

Some are asking who would have abortion ads  (see previous post) offering $50 discounts for Sunday abortions . Is this made up? Is this satire?

Sadly no....look up Orlando Women's Center who boast   5 locations. There website looks like a posh spa ad  even saying free WIFI availability. Wow, would you want to check your email or post on Facebook during their speedy abortion?   How's that for multi tasking? The callous nature of what is being advertised is almost beyond comprehension.

I clicked on one of the flashy tabs with information about Reasons for abortion. It is the most shameless promotion of abortion....from minimizing the killing of a human life to dissing the option of adoption and normalizing abortion as the only reasonable alternative to an unplanned pregnancy.

They do not pretend they are there to offer you a choice....they are shamelessly promoting this choice for profit...... and a profitable one at that.
There is no disputing that human life occurs at conception, but fertilized eggs used for in-vitro fertilization are also human lives and those not implanted are routinely thrown away. A human being is not a citizen or has rights until it achieves personhood. Personhood is achieved only after the fetus is born. When personhood is reached and a life is taken, it is called murder. Is it murder to throw away fertilized eggs? If not, then how could abortion be murder?
Adoption is not an alternative to abortion, because it remains the woman's choice whether or not to give her child up for adoption. Only very few women who give birth choose to give their child up for adoption. Less than 3% of white, unmarried women and less than 2% of black unmarried women choose giving their child up for adoption. Women think that it is more of a sin to give their full born child up for adoption than to have an abortion
Over 750,000 teenagers become pregnant every year. 80% of those end in abortion. Teenage mothers who keep their pregnancy face grim prospects for their future. They are likely to leave school, receive inadequate prenatal care, and rely on public assistance to raise a child, develop health problems, or end up divorced.
Wait a minute, per the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, latest  stats the correct numbers are for teens choosing parenting-55%,
teens choosing abortion 27%,
pregnancies ending in miscarriage is 14%
<1%  choose adoption.
So this 80% is a bold faced lie designed to normalize abortion and discourage adoption and parenting. Shameless does not begin to address this.....

Most having abortions are not teens....Natl Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy

National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy releases the latest Guttmacher Institute report on unintended pregnancies . Long report but some interesting things jump out at me.

The part that interested me is the unintended pregnancies ending in abortion. Of  course these are reports for 2006  and analyzes the time between 2001 and 2006. Some interesting points...

  • The  highest age of pregnancies ending in abortions is 35-39
  • Most reported had some college followed by college graduate.
  • Black, non Hispanic has 52 % of abortions and the second place is at 39% for Caucasian
  • Relationship status were single women not cohabiting.
  • Most said they had no religious affiliation
So the aborting woman is most likely  a 35 year  old , college educated, black, single and not living with someone and claims no religious affiliation.

So what does this tell us?  They surely know about birth control, can be expected to have access to birth control procedures. They are obviously  engaging in casual sex and have no inhibition to using abortion as a method of birth control.  This goes along with reports that most presenting with an unintended pregnancy state they  did not consistently use birth control.

So abortion as a means of birth control? Sure looks that way. That is why abortion is a lucrative industry.

No Baby.org: links to sites that are not parent friendly

Refer to the previous post about the high teen pregnancy rate in Memphis and specifically at Frayser High School....I started thinking about the program they spoke of No Baby.org. I wanted to know more about this program and looking at it was not surprised to see the connection to Planned Parenthood and Memphis Center for Reproductive Health. We gave documented PP's disdain for parental involvement even when statutory rape is involved in the last post. One other link they take you to is Memphis Center for Reproductive Health. Looking at some of the pages of information it caught my eye that they devote  a page to privacy rights. Not the usual disclosure  in fine print but detailed instructions on how to implement the Escape Button at the top of the page to quickly exit the page in the event someone walks into the room while you are viewing the page and then they go into detail on how to clear your history/cache files on your computer. Now my suspicious mind wonders if this is another way that they seek  to interfere with the parent /child relationship.  Studies indicate that more parent/teen involvement is the key to preventing sexual experimentation and activity.  So why work against the parent...because this is their method of operation. I remember hearing Carol Everett who used to run abortion mills in Houston tell how they work to mock parents and separate the teen from the parental influence. They want to give you sex ed, birth control devices  and when they fail we are here for the abortion. It is a formula that works well with the aid of our tax dollars.

Memphis: teen pregnancy rate twice the national average but $$ flows for same old programs .

Talk about a target rich environment for Planned Parenthood !  Memphis now has the distinction of having a teen pregnancy rate that fluctuates between 15 and 20 percent, twice the national average and in one high school in Memphis the per cent is up to 26%. This would be Frayser HS in North Memphis where is a Title One School meaning that 100% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunches.  Most are headed by single female parent.
At this point the only answer offered seems to be to do the same thing with more money thrown in   ( like a $250,000 advertising program ) and hope/expect different results. Isn't that the definition of insanity? Just  add more comprehensive sex ed, birth control hand outs and hope for the best. Add to that the Planned Parenthood  sites like Take Care Down There  that is as close to porn as you can get. Add that to  PP counselors  advising a girl posing as  a minor pregnant by a much older man wanting an abortion without her parents knowledge to lie in order  to get a judicial bypass for permission for an abortion  and this result is predictable.  I post t his video to remind you it is high time to defund Planned Parenthood. They have had their way in Memphis long enough. Why continue to fund failed programs?
