Standing at the Rea Sea and trusting God.....faith tested and remaining strong

David and Kathy
With her usual optimism and strong faith in God, Kathy Hardin, White House, TN is facing her latest challenge……cancer. Diagnosed with breast cancer a year and a half ago and now in her leg, pelvis and spine, she continues her normal routine in a wheelchair. Kathy has homeschooled all nine of her children, with six still in the process. She also finds time to tutor a friend’s child.

Kathy and her husband David have resided in White House over 20 years. Their entire family is active in many activities putting their faith to work in everyday life.

Five years ago, the Hardins undertook a step of faith when they worked and fund raised to adopt a young child from Armenia who suffers from spina bifida. Before the adoption could be completed, 3 year old Karene became critically ill. She was in need of surgery, but developed meningitis and lost over 20 pounds.

On faith, Kathy flew to Armenia and completed the adoption in record time. What occurred next was nothing short of a miracle. Karene’s medical needs could not be met in the hospital that lacked basic necessities. Kathy flew home on a commercial flight with her critically ill child and Vanderbilt hospital completed the needed surgery and care. Karene is now 8 and an active member of the family giving her mom tips in how to careen her wheel chair.

Kathy and David have always been the first to help others, whether it is feeding the homeless or hosting orphans. Now her friends are helping them. David is currently on an unpaid leave of absence from his job to care for Kathy. A  Facebook page called Help Kathy Hardin has been set up detailing ways to help them.

In typical form Kathy sees this through her faith lens as another miracle.

“What is a miracle is the chance to bring glory to God. So if I am healed then He gets the glory for the miracle. If I am not healed then I have the opportunity to show that I serve a God that I can have total trust in to have it all under control.”

The percentage of male children born in Armenia has risen significantly due to an increase in female foeticide, the United Nations Population Fund said on Monday.
More than 7,000 Armenian women have had selective abortions over the past five years, according to a new study carried out by the UN Population Fund with the Armenian health ministry and the Institute of Perinatology.
The gender ratio of births is 110-120 boys to 100 girls, higher than the accepted norm of 102-106 boys to 100 girls, the study said. The trend could cause demographic problems for the small ex-Soviet state, UN Population Fund official Garik Hayrapetyan told a news conference in Yerevan.
“In ten to 20 years, we will face a deficit of women — that means, of potential mothers,” Hayrapetyan said.
Selective abortion is a problem in countries like China and India.
But it has also reached “worrying proportions” in Caucasus states Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly said in a resolution on gender selection in October.
The resolution said that pressure on women to have selective abortions should be seen as “a form of psychological violence”.

Do those pro lifers ever adopt?? Ask the Hardins of TN...

How many of those pro lifers ever adopt???

Well the Hardin family, whom I am proud to call friends, are as pro life as they come.   Just take a look at their van covered in pro life stickers...their 8 home-schooled children.....their entry into pro life oratory contests.....avid and trained sidewalk counselors and  in several  pro life arenas.....I can count on them  to march in the parade and help with any pro life event.

They have worked and fund raised for over two years to raise the money  to adopt this special needs child from Armenia who had never been outside her orphanage in her 4 years of life. While the prayed and waited for the bureaucracy  to move, they almost lost her as Kathy Hardin received a call to make an emergency trip as  their to be daughter, Karene was critically ill.

She  was sick and down to only 15 pounds.  This  hospital was without the basic necessities to treat her. I must admit when I received  the broadcast email of what was happening, I was greatly discouraged. The Hardins have a strong faith and when they finished the email by telling us to take a front row seat and watch what God can do;  I must admit I felt that she could not possibly survive even if  they were able to raise the funds for an air ambulance from Armenia to Nashville.

Fast forward ... they were able to get the adoption accomplished in an emergency period of time, fly home on a commercial flight, get her into Vanderbilt for the needed surgery literally in the nick of time. Yea God !!!.....slap me across the face for  my lack of faith.

Channel 5  covers the story here, here and  here.
"For two weeks it was pretty touch and go and I was working on adrenaline," Hardin said.
Karine suffers from Spina Bifida and lives with a shunt to reduce swelling in her brain. Just weeks before she was scheduled to make the journey, the Hardin's said she underwent surgery to correct the shunt, then developed meningitis, and lost nearly 20 pounds when the Armenian hospital withheld pain medicine and antibiotics.
If you'd like to help with her medical costs, you can make a donation to the Karine John Hardin fund at the Hendersonville branch of Regions Bank.
