From vision to reality: You won't have to walk it alone

Walker's choice for spokesperson draws concerns despite his otherwise solid pro life credentials

Scott Walker is gaining attention each day as speculation grows that he may become  a presidential candidate.  The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel posts an article about the  strong pro life governor being in trouble with the state's pro life organizations for selecting a spokeswoman who is a Planned Parenthood supporter.  Alleigh Marre, has previously worked for pro choice Republicans such as Scott Brown,  but she draws special ire for not keeping her abortion opinions to herself instead  of blogging about it.

"Obviously, naturally, that's a problem," said Matt Sande, legislative director for Pro-Life Wisconsin, which endorsed Walker in 2010 election and his recall contest. "I think he needs a new spokeswoman, immediately."

"As a person in the public representing the governor, I think it is a problem," said [Barbara]Lyons of WI Right to Life, a longtime Walker ally. "It's a problem for people who believe in Scott Walker and his pro-life position."

"America is a great country where people can have differing points of view on various issues," said Tom Evenson, Walker's campaign communications director."

"One unnammed activists suggested it was a matter of sloppy vetting but others have suggested it is a preamble to a national campaign to soft peddle his pro life views. Pro lifer Gary Bauer is less than impressed with the impression of being pro life but not wanting to talk about it."

 Pro lifers have been used and taken for granted in the past. There is a litany of state pro life politicians who suddenly forget those stands once national office beckons.  Here's hoping Walker is not one of them. If you want to employ a abortion supporter for a job,  please don't make him/her your spokesperson.

McCain wants less abortion talk as way to win...

Article explores Senator John McCain's willingness to throw the lives of innocent defenseless developing babies in the womb under the bus for what he thinks is the way to win votes and elections.  While appearing on a Sunday morning talk show hosted by Chris Wallace, Senator McCain gave this viewpoint. 

"And as far as young women are concerned, absolutely — I don't think anybody like me, I can state my position on abortion, but to — other than that, leave the issue alone when we are in the kind of economic situation and, frankly, national security situation we're in."
Wallace drew the obvious conclusion, even if McCain would not.
"When you say leave the issue alone, you would allow, you'd say, freedom of choice?" the Fox News host asked.
"I would allow people to have those opinions and respect those opinions," McCain answered. "I'm proud of my pro-life position and record. But if someone disagrees with me, I respect your views." 

We say NO McCain this is why moderate wishy washy candidates do not win. Being pro life is not a losing issue and not one to keep "mum" about. If you are proud of your pro life views and voting record you should be able to articulate why to the people. 
"Indeed, one could hardly imagine Sen. McCain offering to respectfully disagree and then "leave the issue alone" if someone were to tell him that the lives of the Americans in our consulate in Benghazi were not deserving of protection. Such a statement, it seems safe to say, would arouse the fighting side of John McCain, former navy pilot and decorated Vietnam War veteran, who endured five and a half years as a prisoner of war. His response would rightly be clear, forceful, and unequivocal. A minimum amount of respect and civility might be included, but chances they would not be the most noticeable features of his reply. Simply put, such a foolish and uncaring statement would make McCain mad as hell."

 Republicans have a messaging problem....not a platform problem. They say we are pro life but let's not talk about it okay?? Our position is correct and totally defensible. Take a stand.

Politico: Poll reports record low for 'pro choice'

 Keep the messaging coming...keep the education coming....keep the pictures coming..... 

Politico has this wonderful headline.  Record low of Americans are self identifying as pro choice.  

Their branding is down. The Madison Ave advertising agency that thought the term pro choice was a good label because after all Americans love choice. The pro life side has shown them what choice   really means. The advances in technology that gives us a window to the womb has helped to identify just who  we are killing  with abortion.

 The Tennessean recently devoted a whole section on the issue of abortion in Tennessee. The online comments were quite interesting. I participated using  scientific and philosophical evidence to support the pro life viewpoint. The  "choicers" were enraged. One self identified college grad made the most amazing statement at the end of one of her tirades. She said abortion had nothing to do with babies and the "fetus" was not dismembered in the abortion procedure and no one knows when life begins.
 

“Pro-life” identification is up among all three U.S. political affiliations: 72 percent of Republicans are “pro-life,” up from 68 percent last year; 47 percent of independents are, compared with 41 percent last year; and 34 percent of Democrats are, compared with 27 percent last year.

Abortion arm decries that 26 states now solidly pro life....

AL: Pro life company will not do business with abortion providers

Now there is a company that you should do business with....they refuse to do business with abortion providers....

Pro-life Alabama Sen. Greg Reed said the company he works for ( Preferred  Medical Systems of Florence, AL ) doesn’t do business with abortion clinics.

Diane Derzis, who operates abortion clinics in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee, said the company was willing to do business with her later last year.

She said she received quotes from a rep. but admitted they did not actually do business with them. The owner said that when quotes are requested they do not always no up front what the business does.
As a test they called and asked for a quote and acknowledged they run an abortion clinic.  "That's a problem..."

Reed said his anti-abortion stance in the state Legislature sometimes makes him a target of pro-choice activists.
“When you stand for pro-life, you are always going to have a small, vocal minority that is against you,” he said. “I am pro-life and I was pro-life before I ran for Senate…. I am going to continue to defend the unborn child.

Kudos to Reed for putting principle ahead of profit.... May his tribe increase.

Gov't Looking Into Pro-Life Stealth Technology

The U.S. military is reportedly looking into state of the art stealth technology employed by pro-lifers at least once a year.

Said one Pentagon official: "Once a year on the same day they announce the time and the date they're going to have thousands of people march into Washington D.C. but every year they come and go without anyone even noticing them. It's quite amazing."

This is especially worrisome since the Department of Homeland Security previously labeled "opponents of abortion" as likely to engage in acts of terror.

This startling stealth capability is best shown by comparing the media's coverage of the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert rally that included live break-ins and extensive coverage by the media but there was hardly any mention at all of a pro-life rally attended by thousands more.

The Pentagon is reportedly looking into how these pro-lifers essentially invade a city without anyone noticing. Their hope is to employ such capability to update their own stealth ground attack maneuvers.

This pro-life operating capability has oddly become more effective the larger the crowds have become. In 1974, 20,000 people marched in the March for Life and were hardly noticed but in the past few years hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers have managed to enter the capitol of the United States of America without hardly any notice.

This invisibility seems to be effective on about 60% of the population, especially on the coasts.

An Ivy League researcher published a study of "Method of Anti-Choice Invisibility in the Physical Theory of Diffraction." The researcher attempted to interview pro-lifers for the paper but failed to locate even one, indicating that their stealth capabilities work exceedingly well on the coasts and on college campuses.

Oddly, liberal activists tend to have an exact opposite capability in that even if only a dozen anti-war or liberal activists show up anywhere with signs, it seems to attract the notice of all media organizations and the culture at large.

White House administration officials speaking on condition of anonymity said they're hoping that pro-lifers stealth capability proves so effective that perhaps pro-lifers might disappear the other 364 days a year.

Steele: Catholic, adopted, head of a pro life party but appears conflicted on life issue...

 I have to agree with the Huffington Post article that gives Steele's full  update and clarification on the life issue but then quotes his statements in the GQ article ...

"Steele declares that abortion is an "individual choice" -- a fairly startling policy position for the leader of the Republican Party. However, the impact is somewhat diminished by the fact that Steele seems to have no idea what he's talking about."

He is Catholic and his birth  mother choose life and adoption for him but  Steele  still sounds like he is trying to have a foot in both camps. Charmaine Yoest of Americans United for Life Action, meanwhile, characterized the remarks as "language straight out of Planned Parenthood's messaging playbook." He is currently  the head of the party that has a strong pro life platform. He makes statements like he wants Roe Vs. Wade repealed because it is bad law (agreed) but allow choice for abortion to be granted by the states. So is he pro life or pro choice?  Is he not  sure or  does he agree with those who don't want to discuss social issues? Does he treat the life issue like the crazy aunt no one talks about? Don't go there .....we are pro life and not ashamed of it!

Canada: Here we go again...students arrested for pro life principles

The National Post reports that 5 Students were arrested on the campus of Carelton University in Ottawa CA today. The students are members of Carelton Lifeline, a student pro-life group. The school tries to make them hold their display in a closed room instead of on campus.

Marvel/DC Comics Illustrator Creates Pro-Life Comic Book

UNITED STATES, April 29, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Professional illustrators come in all shapes and sizes, but very few of them have a pro-life or Christian perspective. But that is something that Dan Lawlis, a professional illustrator for over 20 years who has created comic book art for companies like Marvel and DC Comics, wants to change.
Lawlis is endeavoring to use the internet to bring a new comic book vision to the world, and has made his first go at the effort with the comic called “Orange Peel” – a story set in a technologically advanced future, where evil aliens plot to take-over the neighboring planet Godderth for conquest. However, they first plan to make conquest easy by getting the inhabitants of Godderth to abandon their morality, destroy the family unit, and become so morally impoverished that they will welcome their would-be conquerors with open arms.
The premise of the book is that somewhere in the future, human beings learned how to transport themselves to distant planets, but the transportation led to transformations in their appearance, making them alien-like.
The comic’s artwork is visually stunning and appealing, and little wonder: Lawlis has worked on characters like Spiderman, the Hulk, X-Men and more.
But those characters, he said in an e-mail to LifeSiteNews.com (LSN), are more or less atheistic in their outlook. Instead, he was looking for a character that would appeal to comic book and science fiction fans and help introduce a pro-life Christian message “into what is mostly an anti-Christian atheist entertainment culture.”
The main character, “Paul Roman” wears an orange jumpsuit with a “3” emblazoned on the front – a reference to the Trinity - drives a futuristic roadster called “Orange Peel,” and engages in sharing the Good News with a bunch of alien thugs on Godderth, who call themselves “the Red Menace.”
For Lawlis, this is his first attempt in a goal of creating a product that has a Christian/pro-life message within it, but can be accessible to a mainstream audience. While he admits he may not yet have hit the mark, he hopes to improve the comic with input and ideas from pro-life advocates.
“What I am asking for is feedback/support from the Pro-Life community,” said Lawlis. “The art community is very pro-abortion and I don't think my comic book will be received well by them,” adding that he may face repercussions in the industry as well.

How Red States Reduce the Abortion Rate: A Response to Andrew Koppelman

Andrew Koppelman’s claim that red states and the religious right increase abortions doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.
In recent years the pro-life position has made impressive gains in the court of public opinion. Because of this, a number of political liberals have come to the realization that support for legal abortion is a losing issue politically. As such, many have attempted a clever switch in strategy. Instead of trying to defend abortion rights, they have attempted to seize the moral high ground by claiming that 1) pro-life efforts have been ineffective and that 2) their preferred policy goals offer the best hope for reducing abortion rates. Indeed, over the past few years left-leaning groups have argued that a range of policies will reduce the abortion rate. These include more spending on welfare programs, greater access to contraceptives, and universal health care – in short, everything but providing greater legal protections for unborn children.

This argument occurs once again in a widely circulated essay entitled “How the Religious Right Promotes Abortion” by Northwestern University Law Professor Andrew Koppelman. Koppelman favorably cites Naomi Cahn and June Carbone’s book Red Families vs. Blue Families: Legal Polarization and the Creation of Culture. According to Koppelman, the hostility in red states to both contraception and comprehensive sex education leads to a greater incidence of abortion. Conversely, even though blue states are more tolerant of premarital sex, their support for comprehensive sex education and contraception actually lowers abortion rates. Koppelman spends much of the rest of the essay criticizing the religious right for their opposition to both sex education and government funding of contraception.

Michael Clancy, the photographer who took this world famous picture of a surgery at Vanderbilt Hospital in 1999 of the in utero surgery of baby Samuel at 21 weeks. This story is well known in the pro life circles but what happened in that operating room turned a photographer on assignment into a pro life activist. He has paid the price for his advocacy of the truth of what occured in that room. What Satan meant for harm, God has brought good out of it.

IMPORTANT PRO-LIFE LEGISLATION INTRODUCED

FREEDOM FROM COERCION ACT:
SB 3812 by *Johnson ( *HB 3301 by *Lynn)
Abortion - As introduced, enacts the "Freedom from Coercion Act."
          This very important piece of legislation is being sponsored by Tennessee Right to Life

. We know that many women, if not forced, are coerced, into having abortions and that is just wrong.  Among other provisions, this bill requires that a notice be posted in clinics, or other facilities that perform abortions notifying the patients that it is against law for them to be coerced to have an abortion against their will and that they have the right to contact law enforcement to receive protection. The patient will be informed that an abortion cannot be performed on her unless she provides her freely given, voluntary and informed consent.
 

CRIMES AGAINST THE UNBORN CHILD:

Criminal Offenses - As introduced, specifies that when a defendant commits a homicide or assault against a pregnant woman, the woman's fetus, regardless of viability, is also considered a victim of the offense.
          This is an issue that we have long been interested in and twice in years gone by have sponsored bills that would hold criminals responsible for killing an unborn baby in an assault against a pregnant woman. Note – this has nothing to do with abortion, but criminal assault.

MTSU agrees to stop discriminating against pro life group

Murfreesboro, TN (LifeNews.com) -- Officials at Middle Tennessee State University have agreed to stop discriminating against a campus pro-life group now that a legal group has stepped into the fray. After receiving a letter from Alliance Defense Fund attorneys, Middle Tennessee State has agreed to retract a discriminatory requirement.
MTSU had required that a pro-life student group pay a security fee for a campus display.
ADF attorneys representing the student group, Pro-Life Collegians, argued that the fee was unconstitutional, noting that other student groups are not required to pay for campus security during their events.
“Pro-life student groups shouldn't be penalized and discriminated against for expressing their beliefs,” said ADF Litigation Staff Counsel Joe Martins.
“We are pleased that the officials at Middle Tennessee State University have changed their minds and refrained from singling out the Pro-Life Collegians for this type of fee. The courts have repeatedly ruled that as unconstitutional. The university has certainly done the right thing here in respecting the First Amendment rights of its students," he added.

Giving God A Break

It's the biggest day of the year for US advertising with companies spending between $2.5m and $2.8m to ensure their product is seen by the widest possible audience, but this year's Super Bowl Sunday threatens to be overshadowed by controversy over one of the 30-second slots.

The advert in question? A commercial on behalf of the evangelical Christian organisation Focus on the Family, featuring the University of Florida's star ­quarterback Tim Tebow and his mother Pam, which is expected to focus on her decision to ignore medical advice to have an abortion.

The almost $3m advert, which Focus on the Family says was paid for by donations, contravenes a network policy regarding the type of ads shown during the Super Bowl. Several online petitions have called on CBS to pull the ad and 2,288 people joined a Facebook group pointing out the hypocrisy by saying: "Tell CBS Reject The Focus On The Family Ad Or Accept The UCC's!" UCC refers to the United Church of Christ.
"Super Bowl ads are traditionally about making people laugh and, while there's no doubting the sincerity of Tebow's beliefs, I think people will find this jarring," says Clay Travis, an author and journalist who has written extensively about Tebow.

Rejected ads
"It's such a flashpoint subject and I'm surprised that CBS would go there after the fuss that was caused by Janet Jackson's nipple. It's not even a matter of whether you're pro-life or pro-choice, I think most people would find an advert dealing with abortion to be out of place during the Super Bowl," Travis adds.
Nor is it just a case of the ad appearing to be a bad fit with the Super Bowl's dancing lizards, singing frogs and magic fridges. Networks have previously made a point of rejecting advocacy adverts for Super Bowl slots – last year NBC rejected an anti-abortion advertisement on behalf of Catholicvote.org which used images of President Obama alongside the caption "Life. Imagine The Potential", in addition to one about marriage equality.
