Memphis: PP continues to fight for Title X $$ after losing bid process.....

Locations of Christ Community Health Services of Memphis

In Memphis there is quite a fight brewing.....one the one side...abortion supporters who are saying that Christ Community Health Services should not get the federal contract as  a religious based organization and awarding it to them is unfair . How is that?  PP says it was unaware of the standards in the evaluation. PP had the contract for the past 35 years!! How could they not understand the standards?? Maybe  it is because they were given  preferential treatment in the award process...no standards, just an automatic award. When they had to complete based upon standards...they lose and cry foul!
"Commissioner Terry Roland stated, "Planned Parenthood, which did not win the contract, they're crying foul and my Democrat colleagues are trying to make a political football out of this."
The Shelby County Commissioner voted to give it to Christ Community Health Services but after PP complained , the Commission agreed to stop and reconsider with the final vote  scheduled for Monday, Oct. 17th.

" Christ Community Health Services CEO Burt Waller says it was time for the county to end the relationship with Planned Parenthood "because all you have to do is look at the rate of STD's, HIV, premature births, teen pregnancy rates."
Once again, Planned Parenthood is putting up quite a fight for  a  contract they say they operated at a loss.

In a turn of events, the Health Dept's Madlock who went from being a strong supporter of PP receiving the $$ seems to change her tune. Perhaps the facts did the trick.

"In the past, the state divided the Memphis share of federal Title X family-planning money between Planned Parenthood and the county Health Department, but the state recently began giving money only to county health departments, which caused the amount of grant money flowing to Shelby County government for family planning to rise from $560,000 to more than $1.3 million.
The county sought a partner to handle some of the work, and the administration says Christ Community outscored Planned Parenthood and Memphis Health Center in an evaluation process.
Health department leader Yvonne Madlock cited two reasons: first, Christ Community will offer family planning services in more locations than Planned Parenthood -- four rather than one. Second, Christ Community offers a wide range of other health care services, while Planned Parenthood focuses on reproductive and women’s health."
Given the  record of Planned Parenthood/Memphis...  continuing to give them $$ and expecting  different results sounds like the definition of insanity.
