Komen continues unholy alliance with PP

Susan G. Komen apparently knows no shame. They have a slick marketing dept. and bring in lots of $$. But how did they get this unholy alliance going with Planned Parenthood?  Jill Stanek posts another exchange that is just unbelievable. Susan G. has been continues to give donated $$ to PP even though they were forced to admit that PP does not perform mammograms.

Okay, I get that they refuse to accept the link of increased risk of breast cancer for those who choose abortions but to give large grants for basically doing a topical breast exam and handing out brochures is really outrageous. You can learn how to do a breast self exam and feel what the lump feels like with the dummy used in demonstrations. I learned that while attending a women's luncheon one year.  Why not donate this $$ to county health depts. that actually do the mammograms?

I recently received a request for participation in one of their race for the cure. I wrote and asked why I should donate to a cause that gives $$ to PP when I am pro life. I received a terse reply that my email was forwarded for an answer. When the answer did not come, I emailed back and asked where it was only to receive another terse email stating that "they" were busy and would get around to my answer. The answer was  a form letter that parsed words and basically tried to lead me to believe that the screening and handing out brochures was worthy of those grants. When a lump was detected they referred them to other agencies for the mammograms and in some cases paid for the mammograms. So they are forced to admit that their previous wording that PP does mammograms with these grants is patently false.

Generations for Life: Susan G. Komen Still Referring Women to Planned Parenthood for Mammograms

Generations for Life posts this showing that Susan G. Koemen still refers people to Planned Parenthood for mammograms despite the fact that they do not actually do mammograms. They explain that they refer to PP who outsources this service. So why not just give money directly to the providers of the mammogram. This relationship between PP and Koemen Race for the Cure is too cozy and I feel like we have just scratched the surface of it.

Long awaited explanation from Susan G Komen on funds to PP unacceptable

While the issue of who funds Planned Parenthood may have been taken off the front burner as far as the MSM and top of the hour news...the issue of supporting the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure continues on. We do not forget. Susan G. Komen does indeed send money to the nation's largest provider of abortions . That is fact.  No pink ribbons for me. They have a pretty weak defense of why they pass on grant money and contributions from the tax payers to Planned Parenthood. They continue to put out their talking points that they give money to PP because PP uses that money for the education, screening and treatment of women in underserved areas. Well not really...

Since the Race for the Cure is in my area, I wrote those sponsoring the race affiliated with Susan G. and asked for an explanation of why I should support an organization that takes my contribution and gives it to an organization that I vehemently oppose. I got back the cursory email stating they would forward my email to the development people to give me an explanation. When time passed with no response, I wrote back reminding them that I was waiting and the race was almost upon us. They curtly informed me that their people were busy with several tasks and answers inquiries such as mine was just  one of those duties and they would respond when they had time. Wow, not good PR for people wanting us to contribute to them.

Hi Susan,

Thank you for walking to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure and our promise to end breast cancer! Thank you also for writing us regarding your concerns over our community grants to Planned Parenthood. When these grants are given, it is because the local Komen Affiliate has assessed its community and determined that funds given to Planned Parenthood are meeting an unmet breast health need in that area. Komen does not fund abortions. In the interest of wanting our supporters to be informed, I am sending you a statement below with more details on where the money goes. We cannot overlook these needs.

What Are the Planned Parenthood Contributions From the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation Used For?

This has been an ongoing controversy and now that LiveAction has come out with another sting on Planned Parenthood, this is significant.  The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation states in its March 2011 Statement on Planned Parenthood:
Early screening through mammograms and education is critical to end the suffering from this disease: 98 percent of women treated for early stage breast cancer, before it spreads, are alive five years later. The widespread use of mammography and heightened public awareness of breast cancer both contribute to these favorable statistics.
And while Komen Affiliates provide funds to pay for screening, education and treatment programs in dozens of communities, in some areas, the only place that poor, uninsured or under-insured women can receive these services are through programs run by Planned Parenthood. [emphasis mine]

More information provided on the PP homepage shows they clearly refer out for these mammography services:

Where Can I Get a Mammogram?

Ask your health care provider, health department, or staff at your local Planned Parenthood health center about where you can get a mammogram in your area.
Additionally, it appears that PP does provide breast exams only. However, the Komen memo links mammography, screenings, education, and treatment of breast cancer as their list of reasons it contributes to PP. It’s perpetuated all across the media without validation.
Now that LiveAction has proved that PP does NOT provide mammography services to its clients, what is the money being used for, because clearly is not for mammography screenings?  Education, treatment? Are these questions we can expect our mainstream media propagandists to divulge in their articles? Or will the discovery stop with these citizen investigators and go unreported by the networks?
The Komen Foundation needs to come clean on specifically what those PP contributions are designated and why they really continue to support PP.
