ON WI...NOT...how anti life can you get??

Amazingly enough,  the other night as I was preparing dinner I received a phone call from my Alma mater in WI wanting a contribution. Well, it did not take long for me to let them know I was not happy with what they were supporting and not to expect any contribution from me.  From Pro Life Wis as if WI isn't in the news enough! And I am not talking about unions!  On the life front we have  UW-Madison’s list of pro-life offenses...

"UW-Madison engages in embryonic stem cell research, proposes using aborted baby parts for research, attempts to partner with Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin to provide late-term abortions, and as an upcoming event indicates, is now pushing physician-assisted suicide on the state of Wisconsin. All of this on the taxpayer’s dime...  You will notice the discussion is no longer, “Is euthanasia morally wrong?” but is instead, “Helping Patients Die Who Are Not Terminally Ill.”

UW and PP slink away together....no late term abortions at UW for now

Despite its bold announcement in 2/09....it was not meant to be. Good work Wisconsin, my home state.  The pro life community was quick to respond first with their presence in opposition that would not go away and then with a legal challenge stating violation of state law by funding abortion training at PP. Then the dr. slated to be the abortionist left to work in MA. This was followed by stubborn insistence that  these stumbling blocks would not derail them. But today, nearly a year later came the weak announcement that plans although they are committed to offer this "important" procedure, they are scrapping plans  to do so at UW for now. I think the last election cycle surely had more than a little to do with it.  They know have a new neighbor, Gov Scott Walker who ran on a strong pro life platform. The state legislature switched over to the Republicans in the 2010 midterms so I would say that PP and the pro aborts thought it was time to pack their bags and rethink their battle plan. I am sure pro lifers in WI know to keep their eye on PP as they will bide  their time and rethink their battle plans. Congrats to Pro Life Wis for their commitment and perseverance.

"Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin, says her group is not surprised by the announcement from the surgery center. "Pro-Life Wisconsin suspected for over a year that they were unable to get their ducks in a row," she said, noting that the surgery center was unable to get "full staff support for the practice of late term abortion" at the facility. Pro-Life Wisconsin and Wisconsin Right to Life campaigned hard against the provision of abortion services at the surgery center."

Good News from WI: Madison Surgery Ctr drop its plans to do late term abortion and Obey announces retirement

The news today is fast, furious and fantastic. Rep. David Obey is announcing that he will not seek re-election. Obey is considered as one of Speaker Pelosi’s top lieutenants. His fingerprints are all over the major pieces of legislation enacted in the past year including Obamacare. So long, Mr. Obey, to whom we wish a great retirement.

In another piece of stunning news, we learned that UW has abandoned plans to start a late-term abortion program at the Madison Surgery Center. It is a complete victory for unborn children who would have been victims of late-term abortions, their mothers, their families, the grassroots people who demanded that the late-term abortion plan be stopped, and the citizens of Wisconsin. Information that UW dropped the plan became available through a letter from the Department of Justice to an attorney in Eau Claire who asked for an investigation of UW for violating the law by promoting and being involved in the late-term abortion plan approved in February of 2009. Many individuals and organizations made this possible by their calls, letters, emails, and presence outside the Madison Surgery Center.

Special thanks and praise go to those who work at the Madison Surgery Center who refused to participate in any way in providing late-term abortions and individuals who courageously changed their doctors and insurance rather than be treated at the Madison Surgery Center. Wisconsin Right to Life joined many other organizations in a coordinated effort to make certain that not a single late-term abortion would be performed. It was a gigantic effort that reached a successful conclusion – zero late-term abortions at the Madison Surgery Center. The news doesn’t get any better! Many thanks to those who contributed to this effort. Barbara Lyons Barbara L. Lyons
