"Rick and Karen decided to fight for Gabriel’s life, which nearly cost Karen her own, and they passionately embraced the child during his two hours on earth. They have spent the past three years caring for their daughter Isabella, whose genetic defect, trisomy 18, is an early-death sentence. “Almost 100% of trisomy 18 children are encouraged to be aborted,” Santorum told Schieffer. I am haunted by the smiling photos I’ve seen of Isabella with her father and mother, brothers and sisters. No doubt she struggles through many of her days — she nearly died a few weeks ago — but she has also been granted three years of unconditional love and the ability to smile and bring joy. Her tenuous survival has given her family a deeper sense of how precious even the frailest of lives are. All right, I can hear you saying, the Santorum family’s course may be admirable, but shouldn’t we have the right to make our own choices? Yes, I suppose. But I also worry that we’ve become too averse to personal inconvenience as a society—that we’re less rigorous parents than we should be, that we’ve farmed out our responsibilities, especially for the disabled, to the state—and I’m grateful to Santorum for forcing on me the discomfort of having to think about the moral implications of his daughter’s smile. What Bella's dad taught a liberal....
Wow, listen to liberal Joe Klein on what Rick Santorum and Bella taught him.

Slate: Meet our brave new world....
Slate magazine puts out a piece with a strange headline...
How would she save him....by ending his life as in abortion...I almost can't bear to type it but yes by killing him prenatally.Rick Santorum, Meet My Son
"He has a degenerative disease that has left him blind, paralyzed, and increasingly nonresponsive. If I had known before he was born, I would have saved him from suffering....."
Routine prenatal tests did not detect his condition so she waived the more invasive tests. But had she known the extent of his disabilities and talked to parents coping with these disabilities she would have chosen abortion. But then she makes these statements showing her disconnect in what the story is trying to portray ...
"I love my son more than any person in the world and his life is of utmost value to me. I don't regret a single minute of this parenting journey, even though I wake up every morning with my heart breaking, feeling the impending dread of his imminent death. This is one set of absolute truths."
No one doubts her need for support as she cares for her disabled son and her emotions can be expected to be in turmoil. Slate takes advantage of this to make the case they do and in my opinion using this woman and her son to advance their theology.
Then the woman tells us this about herself....
I was born with a physical deformity in the age before the evolution of advanced ultrasound technology that may have detected it. My mom did not have a choice about terminating her pregnancy, although when I was born and she was told that I might be retarded, that I might never walk, and that given these possibilities she might want to consider institutionalizing me, she probably wished she'd had the choice.
She was born in 1974, one year after Roe vs. Wade. Abortion was legal and actually legal in some states prior to that. None of those dire predictions turned out to be accurate but she laments her mother's lack of knowledge of prenatal testing so she could have chosen to abort her. Did you hear that...the dr. was wrong about all those dire predictions. Does her mother wish she had killed her????
"And I'd like you to meet me, as well, with my artificial leg and strong body and big, beautiful, complicated life full of friends and books and meaningful work and sex and all kinds of texture and heaps of subtlety and contradiction; in short, a full life. My mother made a choice without knowing she had one. I made a choice without having all the information. Neither choice is bad or good; neither is this one thing or the other."Is anything good or bad...or is this our good friend...moral relativism as we have come to know it. This article is put out by Slate to accuse Rick Santorum of not being sensitive to the issues of raising disabled children. How strange since Karen and Rick Santorum are personally experiencing it with their daughter Bella and went through the tragedy with their son Gabriel. This article with it's focus on the hardship of raising a child with severe disabilities and imminent death is meant to use your emotions to suggest that prenatal testing is wonderful so you can use it as a search and destroy tactic and bring only perfect children into this brave new world.
That Santorum would dare discuss the dangers and suggest that "all life is inherently valuable, no matter how compromised or of what limited quality" rankles them.
The article doesn't like to hear that kind of talk...they support that the quality of life trumps the sanctity of human life and use this piece as a way to denigrate a candidate who dares bring up the sanctity of human life.
With this type of thinking next we will be using prenatal tests to weed out those who are the wrong sex....whoops....already doing that.
Hello, brave new world....

WI: Madison paper predicts win for Santorum.....
Oh please tell me it is true....
Madison Politiscope: In moderate Wisconsin, Santorum is poised to win GOP primary
Now Madison is the liberal end of WI...so this really caught my eye!
So why is Rick Santorum -- the man who alleged "Satan" was "attacking the U.S." in 2008 -- poised to squash Mitt Romney in the state GOP primary in April? According to a Marquette University Law School poll released today, Santorum has the support of 34 percent of likely GOP primary voters, followed by Romney at 18 percent, Ron Paul at 17 percent and Newt Gingrich at 12 percent. Seventeen percent remain undecided. He attributes the poll numbers to the large Catholic population and the strong pro life sentiments. All I can say is ....ON WISCONSIN

WSJ: nails the double standard on faith talk between Santorum and POTUS
Wow, this article nails it.
"There's no mystery why. Mr. Santorum is attacked because everyone understands that he means what he says.
President Obama, by contrast, gets a pass because everyone understands—nudge nudge, wink wink—that he's not telling the truth. The press understands that this is just one of those things a Democratic candidate has to say so he doesn't rile up the great unwashed."
Matt Lewis: Santorum is right to focus on social issues
I enjoy reading and following Matt Lewis and agree with his column
Why Republicans usually win on social issues (and why this helps Rick Santorum)
On CNN Sunday morning, Rep. Ron Paul, who — for all the “small-government” conservative talk — harbors an odd infatuation for Mitt Romney — implied that social issues are “a losing position.” In this regard, Paul, a paleoconservative (a nearly-extinct species most known for losing national elections), seems to have a short memory. As Jeffrey Bell’s forthcoming book (per the Wall Street Journal’s review) notes,Social issues were nonexistent in the period 1932 to 1964. … The Republican Party won two presidential elections out of nine, and they had the Congress for all of four years in that entire period.
. . . When social issues came into the mix—I would date it from the 1968 election . . . the Republican Party won seven out of 11 presidential elections.
Abortion in WA laments that the Republican party and other conservatives are encouraging us to ignore social issues such as abortion in a down economy." These people never say just exactly when we'll know the voting masses will be able to handle social issues so that the pro-lifers can come back out of the closet. Is there some magical GDP number that means we can start protecting unborn children from genocide?"
Perhaps our national conscience has been pricked enough
and we are ready to stand up to this injustice. The talking heads on TV are
certainly advising him to avoid talking about these issues but I support
Santorum and when he talks about the down side of the sexual revolution, he
speaks the truth no matter how hard it is for us to hear. I am old enough to
have witnessed it and what he says is 100% accurate. We have more sexually
transmitted diseases (1 out of 4 infected) epidemic levels, more unplanned pregnancies,
more abortions, more broken homes. Are we happier? Not by a long shot. Truth
hurts sometimes. This is why Santorum is ahead because he is saying
what we know to be true even if some of us were late to the understanding.

SBA List Endorses Rick Santorum
First-ever Endorsement for Group in GOP Presidential Primary
Washington, DC ─ Today the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), a national pro-life organization, announced its endorsement of Rick Santorum in the Republican presidential primary.
“Among the field of strong pro-life candidates in the GOP primary, one stands out as a proven leader in this great human and civil rights cause of our time. Rick Santorum communicates the vision and has exhibited the strategic and tactical prowess the pro-life movement must have in order to succeed. Women and children deserve his leadership, grounded as it is in affirming the dignity of every person.
"At this inflection point in the primary process and a tipping point in history on the abortion issue, the Susan B. Anthony List endorses Rick Santorum for the Republican nomination for President,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA List.
"Each one of the candidates in the Republican presidential field have made a commitment to be a pro-life president. However, none of them have the record of consistent leadership that Rick Santorum has demonstrated. At this critical moment in the race, our Board of Directors unanimously decided that we must stand with Rick Santorum, the candidate who throughout his career has stood so strongly for Life," said Jane Abraham, Chairman of the SBA List Board of Directors.
The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of more than 365,000 Americans dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

Santorum on the death of his son..... we needed to affirm his life
Rick Santorum discusses the loss of his son and the family decision to grieve at home instead of rushing his body straight to a funeral home.
Colmes apologizes for mocking the grieving of Santorum's baby who lived two hours......
Oh the blogs are a buzzing over the insensitive and telling comments by Alan Colmes criticizing Rick Santorum and his family for grieving the death of their child who lived after birth for only two hours.
I looked up to see if Colmes had any children and could not find that he did. Maybe that is why he does not understand that the death of a child is a big deal and the entire family who awaited the birth of Gabriel needed some closure. Colmes supports abortion on demand....kill and destroy the remains....out of sight out of mind. He was rightfully called out by Rich Lowry and obviously felt the heat because he tweeted that he apologized to Rick and Karen Santorum for his remarks and they graciously accepted his apology. Colmes used to be a comedian before he became a commentator. Not funny Colmes...

The Elephant in the Room: Two years worth every tear....Happy birthday, Isabella!
And this is a man who was voted out of office....thank you God for men like Rick Santorum....
from the Phildelphia Inquirer
The columnist's daughter has lived despite every dire prediction.
By Rick Santorum
'Incompatible with life." The doctor's words kept echoing in my head as I
held my sobbing wife, Karen, just four days after the birth of our eighth child,
Isabella Maria.
Bella was born with three No. 18 chromosomes, rather than the normal two. The statistics were heartbreaking: About 90 percent of children with the disorder, known as trisomy 18, die before or during birth, and 90 percent of those who survive die within the first year.
Bella was baptized that day, and then we spent every waking hour at her bedside, giving her a lifetime's worth of love and care. However, not only did she not die; she came home in just 10 days.
She was sent home on hospice care, strange as that sounded for a newborn. The hospice doctor visited us the next day and described in graphic detail how Bella would die. In sum, she could die at any time without warning, and the best we could hope for was that she would die of the common cold.
Karen and I discontinued hospice so that we and our amazing doctors, James Baugh and Sunil Kapoor, could get to work focusing on Bella's health, not her death.
