Not the abortion....those pesky regs are making me crazy!

Ms. Magazine has an interesting take on the newly released and much ballyhooed study from Planned Parenthood's Guttmacer Institute of 289 adolescents.  Jivin J points out that the " study of surveyed 289 teens who were pregnant sometime between 1994 and 1996. Sixty-nine of those teens had abortions. An analysis of the survey and one done 5 years later showed no association between having an abortion and depression or low self-esteem. It will be interesting to see how pro-choicers who typically brush off small sample size studies which show an association between abortion and depression will receive this study. "
Also, it is not unusual for the post abortive teen not to fully grasp the enormity of the act until she marries and has her first "wanted" child. Many women report trauma with viewing that first ultrasound.

But Ms. Magazine just briefly touches on this small study and the results to make their other point that if the women are going crazy it is not the act of aborting their offspring but the laws and regs they must go through to get the job done.  Here some of their complaints.

 State legislators have promoted measures like mandatory pre-abortion ultrasounds and biased counseling. Another way to steer young women away from abortion is to force them to first consult with their parents. Nebraska’s law may be the gold standard, redefining informed consent as a mandate for providers to foist potentially misleading, scientifically dubious “advice” on vulnerable women.

Well let's see....those maddening laws were put into place by bi partisan duly elected legislators....this one is my favorite....making young women, that would be minors,  consult with their parents before undergoing a surgical procedure. Wow, how dare they? Allowing the pregnant woman to view  ultra sound and receiving informed consent as to fetal development and the risks of the procedure....another travesty. Their angst at the legislation in NE that women seeking abortion should be screened to be sure there is no coercion and that they do not have risk factors that may  show a  poential for adverse physical, psychological, or emotional reaction. This one  really gets them on fire.
I have a friend who recently  underwent gastric bypass surgery and before the surgery could be scheduled  she had to undergo psychological counseling as do some patients who elect certain types of plastic surgery. But of course, abortions are quick and simple and over with in a half hour. What's to screen for per Ms. Magazine? Guttmacher's exhaustive study of  69 post abortive teens has made a mockery of organizations such as Silent no More  or Rachel's Vineyard  to name just a few of the post abortion groups that minister to thousands of women and men. They can tell them to buck up and be of good cheer.....the problem was those lousy laws not the act that terminated the life of their fetus (offspring).

• Secular Pro-Life describes a young girl’s social networking site post, celebrating getting an abortion after a drunken party. Self-professed abortion rights advocates express such a strong distaste for her cavalier attitude that they wish her great harm.

• Bryan Kemper reports reactions to the March for Life Berlin: … [T]he pro-aborts were lining up beside us screaming the most foul and sexual things at the pro-lifers. They were holding the crosses upside down, waiving rubber sexual organs and throwing condoms filled with water at us….
  This march was so significant because Europe has been in a post-Christian culture for many years and this was a renewal of young Christians taking a stand and shining the light of Christ in the streets.
  
• SoapboxFive discusses the recent attempts to discredit CPCs and the mixed messages pro-aborts give to women: We’ve been led to believe a contradiction. On one hand, we’re told women who seek abortion services are “empowered,” (who needs to know those pesky biological facts about fetal development?), and on the other hand, women are “victimized” by those sly, evil, and nasty CPCs…. But you really can’t have it both ways.
  
• The Passionate Pro-Lifer is encouraged that a Notre Dame administrator (coincidentally dismissed in a recent “restructuring”) will be allowed to give testimonial that past protesters (gay rights and anti-ROTC activists) protested on campus without permits and without charges filed, which contradicts the president’s previous statement that protesters received equal treatment. Charges were brought against pro-life protesters at Obama’s graduation speech last May.
• Christina at Real Choice tells the unfortunate story of a woman who died from an undetected, ruptured ectopic pregnancy following an abortion. Christina writes, “The pain and nausea associated with an ectopic pregnancy are often mistaken for ordinary post-abortion symptoms, and are ignored until the tube ruptures and the woman’s life is in danger.”
• ProWomanProLife notes a recent U of OR study being lauded by pro-aborts which showed teens do not have depression and low self-esteem following abortion. Aside from the fact that such a small sample size is often labeled “insignificant” when the results back pro-life views, PWPL points out pro-aborts will do anything to advance the theory of a “procedure that is quick, painless (both emotionally and physically for the women), and accessible with as little emotivism as possible…” and warns us, “these teenagers will one day be deciding what to do with all of us when we’re seniors.”
• Coming Home remarks on the great blessings of special needs children, stating, “Love sees that which narcissism and fear obscure.”
• Wesley J. Smith reveals one of his pet peeves: calling contraception a “right.” Smith writes, “But should birth control be considered a basic right akin to the rights to life, speech…? Is access to birth control really so central to the minimum level of human existence that everyone should be legally required to have access to it? Nope.”

RU486 celebrates 10 years of making a killing......

While the abortion industry is celebrating 10 years of offering medical abortion pills in the form of RU 486, here are a few women who cannot make it ......including a TN woman. Not to mention all the missing children who will not have a birthday.....

On September 12, 2001, a 38- year-old woman in Tennessee died five days after taking RU 486. She had a tubal pregnancy which, according to a warning from the Food and Drug Administration, RU 486 will not abort. This abortion facility apparently failed to make the proper diagnosis, even though they did an ultrasound. According to her boyfriend, they said, “We don’t see any fetus in the uterus, but that is not unusual. This is an early pregnancy.” She returned home and developed severe pain and bleeding, which worsened over several days. She placed multiple calls to the abortion facility, as her condition worsened, but was advised that her symptoms were normal and routine. She was finally hospitalized and received legitimate medical care, but died from massive peritonitis from the ruptured tube. A major malpractice lawsuit was subsequently filed.

Toward the end of the article she finally uses says the word ..."I ultimately found the idea that we’re shaping and influencing our children before birth . . . a very beautiful and moving idea."

No ads for assisted suicide on Canadian TV yet!

Canada says NO to TV ad on assisted suicide....
Some complain saying it is banning free speech but others complain that "his free speech is dangerous and they don't care who dies from their ideology."

The Television Bureau of Canada imposed the ban Friday, saying the spot, combined with Dr. Nitschke's open instruction on how to commit suicide, might break Canadian law.

In the presentations, the doctor counsels his audience on how to kill themselves painlessly and efficiently. The ad, sponsored by Dr. Nitschke's advocacy group, Exit International, doesn't go into such detail.

Instead, it depicts a sick man in pajamas sitting on his bed, taking stock of the many decisions he's made in life, from his choice of haircut to his favorite make of car.

Excuse me but comparing the decision to cut your hair or buy a car to the decision to end your life...PLEASE! Talk about taking advantage of a depressed person.....

Russians turn away from abortion on demand...

My granddaughter's birth mother ,for whatever reason despite her desperate living conditions, did not opt for an abortion but carried her to term. She could have had an abortion easily and paid for by the govt.For that I will be eternally grateful....

A recent Levada Analytical Center poll of 1,600 Russians shows that an increasing number now favor restrictions on abortion.

Current law in Russia allows abortion on demand up to 12 weeks gestation, up to 22 weeks for social reasons, and at any point during pregnancy for "medical necessity. The "service" is offered free of charge at all state clinics.

"Russia has had some of the worst abortion legislation in the world since the 1920s," reports Joseph Meaney of Human Life International (HLI). "And basically, abortion was a way of life under communism."

He thinks the change in public opinion, reflected in the Levada poll, can be attributed to the church in Russia and to plain, cold facts. "The fact is that Russia is dying out. The population has actually shrunk by over 12 million people just since 1992," he explains. "So literally, Russia is a dying country, and abortion is one of the main reasons for it."

Russian Health Ministry figures show 1.2 million abortions were performed last year in comparison to the 1.7 million live births. Up to a quarter-million Russian women per year are left sterile due to abortion complications. Meanwhile, Meaney points out that life expectancy is lessening in the country due to alcohol, drug abuse and, to some extent, AIDS.

"And so the situation in Russia is that the work force is actually declining. They desperately need more children, not only to fill their country, but even to fill their workforce, and it's just not happening," he laments.

The same situation has been taking place in European countries, where a number of nations have been forced to import labor from other locations, which are often predominantly Muslim.

Left bloggers fret and fret....they want to keep us under the bleachers

 Wow the inbox on abortion subjects is heating up.....so are the broadcast emails from the likes of NARAL etc. saying send money...we have to stop them! There are a plethora of candidates out there who are not only pro life they PRO LIFE...

Here is one lefty blog lamenting the Promise to America saying they want to enshrine  the Hyde Amendment which says that tax dollars will not be used to pay for abortions except in the rape/incest issues for Medicaid recipients, federal employees, and service members. SHRIEK!!  Even the Guttmacher Institute says rape/incest accounts for under 1.5% of the abortions, but every pro abort article leads with this scare tactic!

ANGRY....Jill Stanek has a wonderful post about the liberal bloggers taking Gibbs and Axelrod to task for their famous lack of respect although continuing to call on them to rally the base. I love their language and comparison..

"You want us to help you, the first thing I would suggest is enough of the hippie punching,” Madrak added. “We’re the girl you’ll take under the bleachers but you won’t be seen with in the light of day.

Gotta love it. They got that one right. Let's keep them under the bleachers!

Lower in the document, there's a call for opposition to the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions, which is tied to the larger issue of overhauling the new health care reform law.

Several Republican sources said there was no intention to directly address social issues because the electorate is so heavily focused on jobs and spending. But the language was added, according to a GOP source, after conservative Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana argued that social issues should be included in the document representing the agenda of House Republicans.

Are the culture wars back on??

Colorado's GOP nominee for U.S. Senate, Ken Buck, appears to be backing away from pro-life positions he took during the primary campaign. Per Matt Lewis  in this column he now is saying that contrary to earlier statements that he would not vote to confirm pro abortion candidates for govt. positions including judges....but now he is clarifying that he would consider pro choice people which he thinks is different from pro abortion people. Really?? You thin there is a difference between pro abortion and pro choice??

"When I look at that word, pro-abortion, to me that doesn't mean pro-choice, that means someone who is an activist, someone trying to find ways to promote abortions," he said.

 But there is a bigger story here. While the Tea Party is largely a positive force for conservatives -- including social conservatives -- Buck's victory over Norton underscores a trend whereby social conservatives (who dominated politics on the right in the 1990s) are taking a back seat to fiscal conservatives.

Buck's win over Norton may be one more example to suggest that the culture wars, at least as we have known them, are over.

Well Lewis who is pretty well plugged in says the culture war is over and takes a back seat to fiscal matters.

 but Rachel Maddow and her lefty bloggers are  disagreeing.

The culture war is back." Gen–Xers don't have the leisure to be complacent; nor does Gen Y or Z. Sadly, I think they are just that: complacent.

Sparks endorsed by TN RTL for House Seat in 49th District

NASHVILLE — The state’s oldest and largest pro-life organization has announced its official endorsement of Mike Sparks for the Tennessee House of Representatives 49th District seat.

"With the election of Sparks, constituents in this district have a unique opportunity to add a pro-life vote to the makeup of the Tennessee state House," Tennessee Right to Life President Brian Harris said in the news release.

"Mike represents the ideals of our movement, and we know that he will be an outstanding advocate for the protection of life in our state."

Election of pro-life leaders is all the more critical considering continuing debate on SJR 127, a proposed constitutional amendment resolution calling for a public vote on abortion regulation in Tennessee. The resolution has passed the House and the Senate, but must be approved again next session by a “super majority” requiring the votes of 66 members of the Tennessee House.

"We are confident that Mike Sparks' vote will always be in support of restoring common sense balance to Tennessee's current policy of abortion on demand," Harris added. "Tennessee Right to Life urges concerned pro-life supporters to work and vote for Sparks' election on November 2."

Lefty blogs calling abortion the canary in the coal mine.....they know they are losing.

 Many people emailed and called their senators to tell them to vote no on the Defense Authorization bill. Most of  the press and pundits are focusing on the don't ask, don't tell amendment or the Reid's attempt to sneak in the Dream Act to benefit illegal immigrants as a campaign ploy but not much mention of the Burris amendment to make abortions available in military hospitals on  the taxpayer's tab. So there are many constituencies voicing their distaste for the bill.  Maybe some were opposed to all three "extras" thrown in there to gin up the base on a variety of subjects or to throw something against the wall hoping that it sticks before election D Day. One bill ....so much to dislike.

 A lefty blog said something that I thought was interesting....

"The sad fact is that gay rights weren't the canary in the coal mine after all; abortion rights were. And that fight, like so many others, is in the third quarter with the home team losing. Wa Post: Chris Smith....Abortion does not further children's health

 Chris Smith writes a wonderful op ed piece  in the Washington Post telling it like it is about the hypocrisy of trying to insert abortion as a mean to reduce maternal and child mortality worldwide.

Similarly, unborn children desperately need care to optimize their health before and after birth. Healthy children start in the womb. Abortion is, by definition, infant mortality, and it undermines the achievement of the fourth Millennium Development Goal. There is nothing benign or compassionate about procedures that dismember, poison, induce premature labor or starve a child to death. Indeed, the misleading term "safe abortion" misses the point that no abortion -- legal or illegal -- is safe for the child and that all are fraught with negative health consequences, including emotional and psychological damage, for the mother.

Purists vs. Realists...on life issue

 Open battles are brewing in light of expected Republican victories. Dems are sitting back hoping they will fight to the death and they can walk in and claim the day. The issue is is abortion. I am glad it is the issue because it does not need to be ignored. Yes, we are all thinking about the financial condition of our country....many are hurting financially, out of work and yes it is on the forefront of our minds when you are unemployed. But does that mean the issue of life and death does not matter. I always remember that things that seemed so important quickly fell by the wayside once the diagnosis of cancer with a bad prognosis was given. Then everything else is so unimportant and the only thing important is life and pending death. So why brush off the life issue.....because it is not our pending death but of someone we have not developed a relationship with, that's why. We are by nature selfish beings. Abortion is all about life and death...and the purists cannot get  over the fact that an innocent and defenseless human being is being dismembered with no trial, no representation and no voice...

The pro abortion side always lead with the rape and incest argument to draw attention away from the one being put to death for the crime of the father to attention to the plight of the victimized woman. I looked up Guttmacher Institute statistics and of course even they  cite the incidence of abortion for rape and incest at less than 1.5% and the largest response was 74% at aborting because the baby would dramatically change my life. So let's stop with the rape/incest lead argument but of course it is their best argument. Would they want to lead with let's get rid of the sucker because my life is more important then her/his life... not really!

Jill Stanek devoted her last weekly column to this issue ... that smelling victory the Republicans are urging others to concentrate on the economic issue and remain mum on the social issues.  Backlash caused them to reconsider quickly and they responded by announcing they would include the  social issues led by abortion in their 2010 contract with America.

This led to a bevy of articles by R's who say that we need to remain "big tent" on the life issue including this article in Salon.com by John Avlon, a pro choice R...who argues

... if  rank-and-file Republicans are intimidated into accepting this new normal—opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest—it will not only alienate more centrists and abandon libertarians, it will reignite the culture wars, undercutting the still solidifying national consensus around safe, legal, and rare.

Nonetheless, this new group of candidates campaigning under the Tea Party banner is trying to quietly move the Republican Party significantly to the right on social issues. Encouraged by the conservative feminist presence of Sarah Palin, there is a new absolutism on abortion, one that places ideology over individuals, and drives out a diversity of opinion. Backers of big government and a cradle-to-grave welfare state might logically support the position of forcing women to bring unwanted children into the world. But for alleged advocates of a smaller government, it is both a philosophical and practical contradiction, driven more by faith than reason. 

He worked for  Rudy Giuliani  as a speechwriter, sounds more like Bill Clinton with that safe, legal and rare (wink, wink) stuff.

Alas, even Bernie Goldberg weighs in with his desire to get elected  first and then let's pull these issues  out of the bag kind  of like an added benefit after the election.He espouses the Buckley rule that we should back the most conservative candidate electable..

Jim DeMint, the conservative Republican senator form South Carolina – who backed  O’Donnell – once said that,  “I would rather have 30 Republicans in the Senate who really believe in principles of limited government, free markets, free people, than to have 60 that don’t have a set of beliefs.” Me too, Jim, but in the real world, the Democrats would shove whatever left-wing programs they want down those 30 conservative throats – and there wouldn’t be a damn thing DeMint and his 29 conservative pals could do about it.

I understand his theory but nothing makes the grassroots madder than donating money and time to a candidate and then have them get elected to vote against strongly held principles. There seems to be a principle going on that once elected and inside the beltway....they lean left....so if they start in the center....do they ever go to the right? I can't think of any incidence....they go left. The money and lobbying  influence looms larger on the pro abortion side and as POTUS likes  to say...they have a large megaphone.

Even some pro life blogs are  chiming in with the view that the tea party would lose attraction if they openly embraced the pro life platform.

"The Tea Party is very smart to ignore the pro-life issue but eventually get the result of getting pro-life candidates elected anyway."

So is this open debate helpful or hurtful? I say anything that keeps the life issue front and center is good. What do you think? Where do you fall on this issue of purists vs.  realists?

Why did POTUS choose to leave out mention of Creator......

 Should have been said this way.....
