Fetal homicide law in TN would recognize the pre born child as a victim...

Fortunately TN has a law protecting this from happening. Every state should have a fetal homicide law. How tragic that the damage to the car is recognized but not her son.

Rep for Pro-choice Group tells grieving mother 8 pound 2 ounce baby was not a person; mother files ballot initiative in response

Denver, CO – 01/29/13 – Democrats and Planned Parenthood representatives defeated HB 1032 yesterday, an abortion-neutral bill that would have made fetal homicide punishable by law.

Heather Surovik shared her story with the House, showing pictures of her unborn son who was killed when she was hit by a drunk driver. In response, abortion advocates testified that Heather had merely ‘lost a pregnancy’ and accused her and Republican House Representative Janak Joshi of trying to protect human eggs.
“Their comments were hurtful. I couldn't keep myself from crying,” Surovik commented. “I testified about my son’s life, and the car accident and repeat DUI offender who took him from me, and in response, I was told that Brady’s life didn't matter. While the Fraternal Order of Police and the Colorado District Attorney’s Council endorsed this bill, Planned Parenthood and House Democrats seemed pleased to defeat the bill that would have meant justice for victims of violent crimes.”

Heather Surovik was leaving her final prenatal appointment when she was struck by a drunk driver, who was on his fifth DUI. When she awoke in the ICU, she learned that her 8 pound 2 ounce unborn son, Brady, had not survived the accident. Later, she learned that because Brady was not yet born at the time of the accident, the driver could be charged with destroying her vehicle, but not with killing her son.

Immediately following the hearing of the defeated HB 1032, Heather filed an amendment to the Colorado Constitution calling for fetal homicide laws to at last be applied to unborn victims of violence in Colorado. Once the amendment is approved, volunteers will begin collecting signatures to put The Brady Project on the 2014 ballot.
Personhood Colorado announced their support of the amendment at a press conference yesterday. “The House members who voted against HB 1032 must have been extremely cold-hearted,” added Jennifer Mason, spokesperson for Personhood Colorado. “Under current Colorado law, drunk drivers who kill unborn babies can get away with murder. This is absolutely wrong, and it is shocking that House Democrats and abortion lobbyists would be so extreme that they will not allow the legal recognition of any unborn child under any circumstances.”

The Denver Post quoted a Planned Parenthood representative who claimed that they were grateful to the lawmakers who had voted against the fetal homicide bill.

Breaking News: NYT publishes article on March for Life and refers to us as pro life....

New York Times broke their streak of ignoring the Annual March for Life held each year in Washington DC on the anniversary of the decision legalizing abortion in all states.  And they actually broke with their practice of calling us anti choice and called us pro life. My...my....wonders never cease to amaze.
pix from NYT of 2013 March for Life
Yes, they said tens of thousands attended. The Park Service no longer will give a count of their estimates. I heard EWTN hired someone to do the count. I was there and I can attest that it was appeared to be a larger crowd than last year. And it was cold and snowy. Attendees from around the world. I saw people representing Korea, Italy, Ireland to name a few. And the youth!!!!! How they outnumbered us. The church had a strong presence. Again, faces were smiling.....crowds were orderly and tidy. Kids were singing and dancing and playing drums and making up cute rhymes and waving signs. NYT said there were counter demonstrators but I did not see any.

Oh and this news flash the Pope tweeted a greeting to us. Does it get any better than this??

  • Accepting Abundance points out that in the audio of oral arguments from the 1973 Roe v. Wade case, there is nervous laughter (listen here) from pro-Roe attorney Sarah Weddington (pictured left, in 1973 and in more recent years), when she acknowledged that if the preborn child were to be declared a person, her argument would fail:
Justice Potter Stewart pressed further, “Well, if it were established that an unborn fetus is a person within the protection of the Fourteenth Amendment, you would have almost an impossible case here, would you not?” Mrs. Weddington replied, “I would have a very difficult case.” And then she laughed nervously. Justice Stewart, not laughing at all, continued that this is akin to ruling that if a “mother thought that it bothered her health having the child around, she could have it killed.” Mrs. Weddington said, “That’s correct,” and declined any further response.

  • Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life believe Roe v. Wade will eventually fall thanks to reason, democracy and human rights.
  • Albert Mohler lists five reasons why the conflict over abortion will not go away as many hoped it would after Roe:
First… the judicial imposition of abortion on demand, virtually without restriction until the third trimester, produced both shock and outrage among those who believe that the unborn child has an inalienable right to life… [and] an organized pro-life movement came into shape….
Second, Roe also had the effect, surely unforeseen by the Supreme Court, of bringing millions of evangelical Christians into the fight on behalf of the unborn. Prior to Roe, even many evangelicals believed that abortion was a Roman Catholic issue….
Third, the death spiral of abortion simply defies adequate calculation. Over a million abortions are performed in America each year. Reports last year indicated that over 40% of all pregnancies in New York end in abortion, a rate that increases to almost 60% of pregnancies among African-American women.
The sheer scale of the death toll sears the pro-life conscience. Young people can now see that millions are missing from their own generation.
Fourth, abortion has proved to be exactly what pro-life activists warned it would be: a deadly threat to human dignity that would target specific populations. Prenatal testing has produced a deadly reality for unborn babies considered less than acceptable by their parents.
The vast majority (90%) of unborn children diagnosed with Down syndrome are now aborted. Sex-selection abortions are legal in the wide-open “right” to abortion declared by the court. Prenatal testing of other characteristics means that parents can now abort a baby that does not meet their specifications and try again.
Fifth, powerful imaging technologies now allow a look inside the womb, a privilege unknown to previous generations. That window has transformed the equation, as millions of parents have seen their unborn children and witnessed the miracle of life.

Four Decades Later, Roe vs. Wade Still Roils Tenn. Politics

Look what ACLU is complaining about....don't they want the woman to get care???? Look what happened to Planned Parenthood client in Chicago...they left her bleeding for 5 hours before sending her to the ER where she later died.

Four Decades Later, Roe vs. Wade Still Roils Tenn. Politics
By Mike Osborne

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Tuesday marks the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion. Four decades later the ruling continues to fuel controversy here in Tennessee.

Hedy Weinberg of the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union contends the Tennessee Legislature is slowly chipping away at the reproductive rights of women.

“Over the last 12 years, Tennessee legislators have attempted to enact a web of restrictions that force government deeper and deeper into the personal and very private decisions about reproductive healthcare that women should be able to make on their own.”

Weinberg says the most recent of those restrictions was enacted last year when a measure was passed requiring doctors providing abortions in Tennessee to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.

Susan Allen speaks for the pro-life group Tennessee Right to Life. She sees the admitting privileges requirement as just common sense.
“If there were complications with the abortion, which does happen, that the doctor – the attending doctor – that was doing the abortion could take the woman to the hospital to give her care.”

Allen says a delegation from Tennessee will be traveling to Washington D.C. this week to take part in the annual March for Life event on Friday.

NYT: Abortion supporter becomes a mother and it all changes.

Well here is an article in the abortion supporting NYT just in time for Roe V Wade. Here is another reason we are winning.....the abortion supporters become mothers and then everything changes. I know the feeling.

"But something changed once I became a mother. Pregnancy went from Scarlet Letter to Holy Grail — something deeply desired and no longer feared. Abortions seemed more something in a campaign platform. What felt most real was the fact that my husband and I wanted another child."
"As with so many aspects of parenting, we make decisions now and are haunted by them for the rest of our lives. I am a woman who supports abortion rights. Before having children, I would have said that reflexively. As a mother, I no longer can."

Ask them what they mean by choice????

As the abortion industry abandons the word choice....noting their branding is down; and as they struggle with a way to sell choice....we will help them by reminding them that choice has silenced the voices of 55 million little voices.

As they wonder why they don't have the following of the youth.....we can help them understand. They have been thrown into the refuse bins and down the drain. That is what you call choice. No trial....no lawyer....no jury.....just the death penalty. No anesthesia....just a scalpel to dismember their little bodies. This is what you call choice.

You have silenced  their voices and punctured the hearts of the mothers and fathers who mourn their choice. Is this what you call choice.

As you struggle with your branding....you watch abortion workers walk away and join prayer vigils. Is it because your brand is no good. No...it is because what you call choice is evil. Your new slogans are not bumper sticker ready you say.....how to justify...how to sell...death and make it sound acceptable. Is this what you mean by  choice?

Tennessee Right to Life holds annual Rally for Life in Nashvilled

 National Right to Life reports:

Congressman Chris Smith speaking to Tennessee RTL in Nashville
Supporters of Tennessee’s leading pro-life organization gathered Saturday in Nashville for the annual Rally for Life.  The event takes on even greater significance this year considering the Obama administration’s high profile support for abortion rights and Tuesday’s 40th anniversary of the 1973 decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court which legalized abortion for any reason through all nine months of pregnancy.

Additionally, the continued growth of pro-life majorities in both chambers of the General Assembly demonstrates the importance of abortion issues to the state’s voters, according to Brian Harris, president of Tennessee Right to Life.

“While the nation re-elected a strongly pro-abortion President last November, Tennesseans strongly embraced pro-life candidates from the top of the ticket all the way down,” said Harris.  “Tennessee’s pro-life majority continues to grow and we will continue to pursue public policies more in line with the pro-life views of most Tennesseans,” Harris continued.

Pro-life champion Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) spoke on the steps of the state Capitol. The following are excerpts from his stirring remarks.

“…The passage of time hasn't changed the fact that abortion is a serious, lethal violation of fundamental human rights.  And that women and children deserve better—much better.  And that the demands of justice, generosity and compassion require that the right to life be guaranteed to everyone, regardless of age, sex, race, condition of dependency, disability or stage of development…”

“Rather than obscure or dull our consciences to the unmitigated violence of abortion, the passage of time has only enabled us to see and better understand the innate cruelty of abortion—and its horrific legacy—while making us more determined than ever to protect the weakest and most vulnerable.”

“By now I’m sure you've weighed the personal cost and answered the call—the duty to protect—with an enthusiastic yes.  The struggle to re-establish durable protections for the most persecuted minority in America today—unborn babies—pits us against the quintessential example of wolves in sheep’s clothing and is worth any personal sacrifice or pain.”

“So be encouraged.  You are making a huge difference.  You are saving precious lives.  Despite seemingly ominous present-day signs—the re-election of the abortion president Barack Obama, public funding for abortion in the Obamacare exchanges—our powerful, non-violent, faith-filled resistance to the evil unleashed on America four decades ago is growing in public support, intensity, commitment and hope.  In adversity our faith and trust in God is tested, but it also deepens and overcomes and forges an indomitable yet humble spirit….”

“Be encouraged.  We are not only on the side of compassion, justice, and inclusion; we are on the right side of responsible science and of history.”

“Someday future generations will look back on America and wonder how and why such a seemingly enlightened society, so blessed and endowed with education, advanced science, information, wealth and opportunity could have failed to protect the innocent and inconvenient.  They will wonder how and why a Nobel Peace Prize winning President could also simultaneously have been the Abortion President.”

“You and I celebrate life.  Unborn babies are not disposable commodities.  We recognize that unborn children, like their older brothers and sisters, have inherent worth, value, and dignity. They are children, too.  If left alone to grow and mature, they too will become older brothers and sisters—and perhaps parents themselves someday.”

“We have so much to do.  In no way can any of us grow weary in doing right.  With faith in God, unceasing prayer and fasting coupled with works, a culture of life will replace this present darkness.”

Inauguration crowd same size as last year March for Life but with wall to wall coverage

Wow.....tuned into the inauguration of Obama today and they said the crowd would be 500-600K strong.Wall to wall TV coverage....

Last year, I was in that crowd of 500k that garnered no coverage from MSM..... Just thought I would point this out. I am on my way to the March for Life this year which will mark 40 years of Roe Vs. Wade. I can't wait to see the crowd this year. We had to put the march back because of the inauguration.  You can tune into to EWTN for coverage. We will be ignored again by the rest with few exceptions.

March for Life 2012 draws 500,000
WASHINGTON, DC - The March for Life on Monday, January 23 saw half a million people take to the streets of the nation’s capital to share their pro-life convictions and join together for the common cause of stopping abortion.
According to LifeNews, an estimated 500 thousand people attended the 2012 March for Life once again breaking the record for the largest human rights demonstration of its kind. This year the majority of marchers were under the age of 25.
They were touring the Capitol, enjoying the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall, pushing strollers around the monuments, singing, and holding yellow balloons in mitten-clad hands. They were everywhere. They were March for Life participants, visiting Washington, D.C. on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision to protest the legalization of abortion--and they are getting younger and more vocal each year.
